Re: Parents coming to dinner:

Do you need sides with baked ziti? You definitely need some italian bread. Some flavored olive oil would be a nice touch, if they like that kind of thing.

I'm afraid I'm not much help. I don't cook.

Re: Parents coming to dinner:

i think you need a meat - try a simple crusted roast beef that you can just season and stick in the oven, search on food.com for something you can just put in the oven and forget about

i would do roast beef, the pasta, a nice salad and then one side which could be like garlic bread, or the stuffed mushrooms sounds good too.

when i make them i just mix melted butter, breadcrumbs and seasoning and stuff with that - sorry i dont know measurements i usually melt a half a stick of butter and keep pouring into the crumbs until it looks moist enough

Then how long do you put them in the oven?

How about a steak - like a london broil.

Serve bread and salad to go with it.

I was going to suggest stuffed mushrooms too.

Heres how I make them:

Buy the big stuffing mushrooms. Take out the stems, slice them, saute them in a pan with some fresh garlic and butter-

While thats sauteing, I mix in a bowl-breadcrumbs, onion, 1/2 cloves of fresh garlic, 2 eggs-salt and pepper. u can pretty much season w/whatever ud like-i like a lot of garlic. the eggs help a lot too

when they are done sauteing, i mix the stems in w/the breadcrumb mix, then stuff THAT mix into the mushrooms.

bake on 350 until they turn brownish.....about 20 min

Re: Parents coming to dinner:

IF you are def doing baked ziti, I would add:

sauted escarole or broccolli rabe
a salad
garlic bread

If you want a meat, how about making a meat sauce for the baked ziti?

That's what I was thinking. Throw in meatballs, sausages, maybe some beef.
