Parents driving me to drink

Parents driving me to drink

Well not literally but my invitations came back from the calligrapher last thurs.

They had looked at stamps last week and PICKED them OUT BUT DIDN'T PICK THEM UP So they told me Sat they were TOO BUSY to be bothered getting the stamps and sending out the invites last Saturday THEN I find out it was because Mom wanted to go shopping in Manhattan for ANOTHER MOB dress.

Well NOW they give me the song and dance we get up at 5 and 6 am and go to work then come home and do things so we don't get to bed until 10 we don't have TIME to do your invitations this weekend IF YOU WANTED THEM DONE WHEN YOU WANTED THEM DONE YOUR A@@ SHOULD HAVE BEEN IN NY DOING THEM AND NOT IN MICHIGAN - YOU MOVED SO NOW YOU DEAL WITH OUR SCHEDULE AND WHEN WE FEEL LIKE DOING THESE THINGS - WE MIGHT NOT GET TO SEND THEM OUT FOR ANOTHER 2 WEEKS SINCE WE HAVE SO MUCH TO DO AND CAN'T GET TO IT DURING THE WEEKDAYS.

The kicker is my dad has FORBIDDEN me from sending my rd invites until 5 days AFTER the wedding invites since he wants them to get the wedding ones first - UMMMM last time I checked FH and I are PAYING for the RD and we will send them whenever we want - OF COURSE after my wedding invites go out - BUT 5 DAYS is silly since they don't want to send them out in the first place.

They just want to control everything half the time or start a fight then agree to whatever was decided in the first place

Then I find out that my dress is IN YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!! So since I had my changed (made strapless and did some othering things to the top) I want to make sure it was done properly - Mom tells me tough I can see it when I come home IF I WANTED TO SEE MY DRESS I SHOULD HAVE MY A@@ IN NY AND NOT IN MICHIGAN I am too busy to be bothered going and looking at a stupid dress if it didn't come out right that is not my problem and you are just stuck with it.

I know they just miss me but every nasty comment out of mom's mouth is about when am I coming back and IF I WAS IN NY none of this would have possibly happened - I already hear if I was in NY I would have had a job in 2 weeks since any idiot in NY can get a job in a month I can get one in 2 weeks!!!!!!!!

Wow, I am sorry you are going through this. It sounds like your Mom really misses you and doesn't know how to deal. Have you tried talking to her about her behavior?

I'm so sorry Christine I'm sure it's b/c they miss you so much. If you need any help with your invites, let me know. I'll help as much as I can.

How are you feeling? I have to call you. But I've been getting home so late lately

Wow that stinks. With the attitude they're giving you why would you want to come back? At least that's how I would be feeling. And with my big mouth that's probably what I'd say. It's obvious they miss you but it's still unnecessary stress added that you don't need right now. Try not to let it get to you, if you can.

I would love the help but as my parents put it they are the hosts and it is THEIR job to get them out AND I was LUCKY they let me PICK the invitations.

I live in NJ and get them the same guilt stuff all the time. Don't they realize that the harder the time they give us the further away we want to be! Sorry you have to deal with this, its hard enough planning from out of state!

your dress is in! YAY! But talk about mixed emotions. I can sympathize with you sweetie. Its so tough w. parents right now that everything is coming to the end sort to speak.

Re: Parents driving me to drink

Oh man, I can SO relate. My FH just signed a job offer with a company in DC and I'm looking for jobs down there to move ASAP even though he is still in school. My parents keep telling me 'well, what if he changes his mind' regardless of the fact that the company he signed with is the one he said going into grad school was his DREAM company & job. Then my parents tell me to wait and transfer with my current job, but the company can't guarantee me a transfer in under 2 years (I'm getting married in 7 months and sort of want to live with my husband after we get married - call me crazy). And to top it all off now with the health issues I'm dealing with and the fact that as a result I can't drive for 6 months (and driving is ESSENTIAL to my current job) I really can't do this job in NYC or anywhere else for that matter. But my parent's don't seem to fully understand the consequences of what I'm feeling. My mom says that I'll be back to driving in 3 months yet the doctor (who mind you is conservative) is not comfortable taking me off of the anti seizure medication in less than 6 months. Seizure medication = no driving.

Oh man, I am so sorry to rant on top of your issues. I guess bottom line what I'm saying is that I totally understand your feelings of dealing with problematic parents. I just keep reminding myself that even though they seem evil at times my parents are still willing to house me and feed me at a time of crisis, so they're not too bad! Even though they drive you crazy, they still love you.

Hey, since I've got some time on my hands I'd be willing to take care of your invitations if there is some way of getting them to NYC.

Thank you!!! I know it is just a rant but it is nice to know others are going crazy with their families as well.

FH wants to know everytime they call and upset me (which is hmmmmm almost every day - since mom has SOME comment to make) that he is MORE determined to move to CALIFORNIA just to get away from their drama (hmmmm or maybe it was from his crazy family who has been driving HIM to drink)

Just a little story about a great couple I know. Her parents live in Massachussettes. His parents live in Florida. They live in New York. It's the happiest marriage I've ever seen. wonder why?
