For those whose parents are contributing a good amount, what are you getting them as a parent's gift?
If your ILs are not contributing close to the same amount, but are contributing, are you getting them the same gift. I just KNOW that FILs would be insulted if we got my parents a larger gift, but my parents are contributing 150% more towards the wedding.
Thoughs? Ideas? I am getting both sets of parents a parent's album - but I wanted to give them something additional. Not sure how much to spend or what to get though

Re: Parent's Gifts
I was in the same situation as you, and we decided the same gift. Both will be getting parent albums, and we are getting them both Gift Certificates to Mohegan Sun. They both helped us out tremendously, even though it wasn't exactly even, we felt getting them the same gift was only right.
ETA:: I'm also going to pay for my mom to have her makeup done by my MA. She doesn't know it yet, but I wanted to surprise her with that, so she doesn't have to worry about her makeup on that day. It's a little surprise, that will be kept between me and her, when she finds out of course!

Re: Parent's Gifts
My parents are paying for everything and his parents are not contributing at all. While we contemplated giving everyone the same gifts, but we don't want to. We will not be giving our parents the gifts together, so neither of them will know what we got the other but we just want to make sure that my parents know how much we appreciate everything that they did for us, not only monetarily but support-wise, helpfulness, etc. Unfortunately his parents revolve around themselves and since they are not the center of attention on my wedding day, they aren't interested.

We are in the same situation. We are definitely going to do more for my parents, they have been absolutely unbelievable and given us so much. Not only for the wedding, but for our new apartment as well. His parents gave us a little money. We appreciate both of them very much, but we feel that it is only appropriate to give my parents a 'larger' gift. I am not sure what the gifts will be yet though.

Re: Parent's Gifts
I was wondering the same thing. His parents have helped us out w/ EVERYTHING we've ever needed, financially inc. My parents do what they can, which isn't as much. They're all getting the parent albums, but I wanted to do a little something extra. I know it's a little cheesy, but I don't have a lot of extra $$, so I was thinking for the moms that I'd get embroidered hankies for them as a keepsake, and they can use on the wedding day. For the dads I have no idea. Maybe you can do gift certs to their fav restuarant? That's always a winner, I'm proably doing those for my BP

Wow! I thought I wrote this... We were having the same problem, trying to figure out what to do... I'm glad we're not the only ones going through this...

One part of the gift I am giving my parents (who are paying close to 90% cost) is a double frame. On one side will be a picture of me taking my first steps and the other picture will be a single protrait of me as a bride that will be given to them later. The dates of each photo will be engraved at the bottom and engraved at the top will be the phrase 'Your Daughter Always.'

We have no clue what to do. Our parents are not paying for anything really big. My parents bought my gown and his are paying the RD, thats it.
We too need some serious help

Re: Parent's Gifts
When is everyone giving them their gifts? I like the idea of pics/frames too - but then that's given after the wedding, right? Is it weird if you give gifts to the BP at the RD but don't give the parents yet?

Undecided on this as well...I personally don't think it matters who contributes more, parents are parents so we will probably spend a similar amount on both sets. Maybe a night in AC or a B&B??

Re: Parent's Gifts
We are paying for our wedding ourselves but we still feel it is the 'right' thing to do by getting our parents gifts!
I purchased my mom's hankie & will be getting her a purse to match her dress...My dad, I am getting him Islanders vs Flyers tickets for April 2nd. They are also getting parent albums & a DVD of the wedding!
My FMIL, I bought her a hankie too & need to come up with something else...My FFIL, I have not a clue! They are also getting the parent album & DVD!!!!
