Part time jobs

Part time jobs

Danielle and I were talking about how to save money for our wedding next year, and I was telling her that I may have to get a part time job during the winter to help me save more money.

During the spring through fall I have my car detailing business to fall back on but I am closing it up either this weekend or the next weekend due to the cold weather.

Do any of you have part time jobs, or any ideas on how I could save more money?

Thanks,
Scott

Re: Part time jobs

Hey Scott - this time of year, there's plenty of part time gigs in retail with the holiday shopping season coming. Do you have a favorite store you or Danielle like to shop in? THere's nothing like the bonus of a 'discount' to help your savings efforts!

I used to work for Fortunoff's....When I left there, I sweared I would never work in retail again....lol....

Anyone else have any ideas??

I guess I will use that as a last resort.

Bartending? Security? You have to take tests to get those kind of jobs, but I hear they are relatively easy and are mostly night jobs. You could try restaurants too, like a waiter, cook, prep or host position.

Good luck!

Well Scott, if you don't like the retail idea, you could go with the restaurant thing....pick a restaurant close to the mall and then you'll really clean up with tips...with all the extra mall traffic!

I really dont want to get into the restaurant business. I worked in a few when I was younger. I know, I know I am picky....Maybe I will go into retail, I just hate working weekends. I wouldnt mind working evenings and maybe one weekend day....I value my weekends so much now.,....

You can't be picky if you need a part-time job... they don't come with such cushy hours, unfortunately. Something's got to give.

Good luck to ya!

Costco is hiring holiday help and it includes night re-stocking. If you can drive a forklift it's a plus.

DH had a friend who's wife was bringing in a few hundred a month re-selling paperback books that she picked up at garage sales at Half.com

Do you happen to have a truck with a plow? You could line up some snow plowing jobs.

Re: Part time jobs

I have been looking for a better job. It is very difficult to find anything good now. I have a resumes out and I am waiting to hear back from a few companies that I applied to. I am also waiting to hear back from the post office. I took the test for Nassau and the test fro Suffolk during the summer, but after the summer they were in a job freeze. My friend who works at the post office just told me that they are going to start hiring again...So hopefully I will get a call.

As far as part time goes....Home Depot or Costco sound like good ideas. I know they pay pretty well. I dont think I can work at home depot though, cause I have back problems and I know they require you to lift heavy things...and that may be a problem for me.

As far as half.com goes, right now I sell books, games, cd's, dvd's...etc. on Ebay. I never used Half.com. Maybe I will try it with the books I cannot sell on Ebay.

Thanks for your replies....Sorry I didnt answer yesterday, I wasnt feeling well.

I hope you are feeling better. Here's a link to a thread on the parenting board that has some information about working from home as a Medical Transcriber
