I have a partial basement. It's just a basement that is not the whole size of the house. Mine is 1/3 the size of the house. I have a washer/dryer and storage space. It's certainly NOT big enough for any kind of hang out room, which is why I hate it!

In the county reassessment they called our crawl space a partial basement.

I think it depends on the house. We have a partial basement but it is really big. We have a split level, I dont know if it's the case with all splits. If you are house hunting, I'd definitely see it before I'd discount it as a small basement. I agree about needing basement space.

Karen - I grew up in a house with a partial basement. We had a ranch and half of it was a basement. It was a decent size. There was one big room and a storage room. I had many friends over growing up hanging out in the basement so it was pretty roomy. Like the others said, dont rule it out because even though it might be a partial basement, it might be just enough for what you want. Good luck!
