Please join us on Saturday, Feb. 9th at the East End Bar on the Upper East Side to celebrate our engagement. With the holidays and the new year, we had to put off the idea of an engagement party so we figured, now is as good a time as any.
The bar is located in the space formerly known as Fiona's at 1664 First Ave. between 86th/87th Street, New York, NY 10028. It's accessible by the 4,5,6 Train to 86th Street station. (the front of the bar may still have a sign that saids 'Fiona's) lol They are very eclectic with the music they play too!
From 10pm-1am you can get open bar and buffet for $40 pp. We'll be having penne vodka, wings, quesadillas and chicken fingers. All are welcome! =)

lol. its a bar so we figure people will either buy their drinks as they go or if they want the open bar they will do the 40. its really not a real party more like 'we are going to the bar for a reason.' lmaooo
the $ doesn't go to us, its what the bar charges!

IN MY HONEST opinion... this sounds tacky to me. Sorry but if i received this I would think you are cheaping out on a party and want me to pay for it

I get what you're saying. I wouldn't call it a party though. I would rephrase it and say come celebrate our engagement with us at such and such bar with the details. I know a lot of people do stuff like this for their birthdays.

again, its not really a party. as a group we all do this for birthdays, promotons, etc. all the time. the 40 a person is 100% optional. its the equivalent of a GTG. you are going to enjoy each other's company not for a party.
people go and come as they want, no gifts are given. just friends having out. i was sent on as a bulletin on myspace and facebook, no direct invites or anything.
anyway.

I agree 100% -- I wouldn't call it an 'engagement party' then because people will feel obligated to bring gifts.
You might offend some people.

hmmmmmmm..... in the original posters defense, I believe she just stated to come out and 'celebrate' their engagement and did not really specify that it was in fact an 'engagement party'. The title of the post I think was meant to be interpreted as 'Party with us' as in 'Woo hoo, come out and PARTY' not 'we are having a party'.
I think the wording is what is throwing everybody off.

You dont need to explain yourself!! and if it was a traditional 'engagement party' would you really be inviting 10,000 brides to be that youve never met before? LOL I think its a cute idea!

My friends set up open bars like this for celebrations all the time....its fine if that is what your crowd is used to. I know what you're talking about.
