Pass port question

Pass port question

How long did it take you to get your pass port? I have one but FH is going to apply today. Our wedding is 13 weeks away. We were going to pay to rush it. Did anyone do that? Does it really come in 2 weeks like they say?

Are you referring to the expedited service the passport agency offers? Or the agencies that you pay like $400 and they get you your passport ASAP?

Pay for the expedited service through the post office. Even though others had delays, I had mine in a week this way.

I would NOT try doing it without expediting it.

It may take 3-6 weeks even with expedited service. I have no idea why mine got done so quickly!

Re: Pass port question

here's what FH and I did for our trip we took to Jamaica last week.

We took off a friday and went to the passport office in Connecticut (1/2 hour to 45 min drive) No appt. no nothing. When you go have your passport pics w/ you and when you go to the door a man was there asking what was needed, put a sticker on the application (need the sticker) and guided us. We ended up having to get a money order for about $160 and being sent to the post office across the street. Gave them the $$ and they took the documents put them in a sealed envelope and we brought the envelopes back to the passport office to drop them off.

Went on Friday, had passports by Tuesday of the next week.

Go to Conn. the NYC office is bananas!

You absolutley need to expedite. I files for mine 14 weeks ago and still haven't gotten it back yet. I am getting nervous, but will hit the wall when 60 days left rolls around and I can get my license but don't have my birth certificate back yet!!!

We just applied for ours last week and they said 12 weeks. That was not expitited. You may want to expidite just in case.

I know that they extended it if you had already applied, but I'm not sure on the details.

Aren't they allowing people to still travel even though they don't have their passports because it is taking so long??? I think you just have to prove that you filed for one.

I am just starting the process and am confused about the birth certificate.... I have to send the original to them and then they send it back to me or do I pay for a copy??

We went to the passport office in LIC on a weekday and there was a very short line. I payed the $90 or so dollars for expedited service because I had a wedding in Canada to go to and it came in two weeks. My FH didn't pay and his still hasn't come. That was over a month ago.

Where is there a pass port office in Suffolk County...is this easier than going to a post office to do all of it??

I was confused about this too!

You send them the original with the raised seal ... they send it back with your passport.

Im in the middle of a passport BC mess. The best thing i can tell you is go to the passport office and try to take care of it in person. I ordered mine in March... I still dont have it, The tracking system sais its being processed. They do take your original birth certificate and mail that off to. You are supposed to get it back with your passport.... Bear this in mind for this is my delema....

You need your BC to obtain your marraige liscence. Since the passport is so backed up, and has NO interested at all in helping me when I call them. I have to pay 70$ today to have another copy of my BC sent to me so I can get my marraige liscence in time for my wedding.

Oh I'm so sorry. That stinks. Do you need it for your HM? If so, try contacting your Representative. I heard that they can actually help.

Just go to the post office and tell them you want to expedite it. You don't need to pay for those outside expediting services.

Also, I think the ability to travel with just proof that you applied for a passport only applies to travel to places you previously didn't not need a passport for (Canada, Mexico, Bermuda, etc.) -- if you're going to Europe, South America, etc., you'll still need your passport.

Hard to tell! Firstly where are you traveling from.
Secondly is this is first time applying?

In about a month of so he will get a letter with tracking information to the passport., you can now look online and see the status of the passport.
If you are traveling to the Caribbean or certain other places , if you show tracking of your passport you are OK, but if it is elsewhere I would be weary of it coming so quickly.

FH just got his and it took a month
For others it takes months.

It's FH's first passport application. We want to go to Aruba. But it all depends on the passport.

I paid for expedited service through the post office as well. I also paid for next day air delivery. I had it in 12 days!
