Passport ??

Question for all you brialliant ladies!!!

With regards to passport. Our travel agent suggested we get ours now - even though we won't be traveling until October 2008.

My concern is that I will be changing my name when we wed in January of 2008. Will I then have to pay to change my passport name???

Anyone have any idea???

you can get one now and then in january apply to get it changed, it's free if you do it within a certain amount of time.

Yes, I believe there is a fee. That is what the lady at the PO told me. I think you can wait until Feb 2008 to get your passport for October 2008. JMO.

ETA: From the link above it seems to be free if it's less than a year.

Name change One year or less No, unless expedited service is requested. Form DS-5504, Passport Re-Application Form ; AND
The passport to be replaced; AND
Acceptable evidence of name-change, such as marriage/divorce/ adoption decree; or court order of name change; AND
Two (2) recent identical passport photos.
Address shown on DS-5504

don't wait to get your passport regardless when your trip is. they don't process your passports unless you call twice or more to tell them your trip within a week or so. it takes forever to get a live rep on the phone as well.
i've sent my application over 6 months ago and i called twice to tell them that i'm traveling in the next week. they don't issue it until you raise hell. my passport was issued a day before my wedding. and they got my address wrong even after i corrected it for them twice.
don't wait!! plan ahead.

They are right plan ahead........I wish that I had done it sooner.........I applied 3 months ago and no sign of it yet........
