I just heard from a co-worker that all passports for international travel must have an expiration date greater than 6 months from the travel dates.
I am searching for info on the web, but has anyone else heard of this?

Re: Passport expirartion dates & international travel
is that new? When we went to Costa Rica last year, DH's passport was expiring the following month and we had no problems. What's the point of an expiration date if it actually is no good 6 months prior?

LisaT - I had the same questions - it seems a bit odd, but I think its true, I'm just not sure when it came into effect

Re: Passport expirartion dates & international travel
Well, you gave me a heart attack. I am going to Paris on Thursday and my passport expires in june. Well, I panicked and called the State Dept hotline and the agent on the phone didnt know what I was talking about. I was told that only certain countries may require that. But France, thank god, does not. Anyway, it need only be valid for the days you are traveling, i.e. entereing the country. I would double check with the state department for individual countries.

Re: Passport expirartion dates & international travel
When I went on my honeymoon I never bothered to check the expiration date on my passport. Well, I had my birthday in Aruba not realizing that is when it expired I found out at customs!!! They were nice enough to let me back in the US, but I almost had a heart attack

it is definitely true for certain countries. i found that out when i went to china last year. my guess is most european countries do not require it.

my colleague was travelling to the UK - and he needed. But if France doesn't, then I'd guess that all EU countries don't require it
