Believe it or not, FH doesn't have a passport. We are getting married July 31, 2010. How long does it take to get one? He will need his original birth certificate also right?

Re: Passport Question
Yes... I was just filling out my dad's renewal form... Go online to
travel.state.gov
for info.... You have time but I would do it soon, by the end of the year to play it safe. It is good for 10 years. Yes you will need his birth certificate but they mail it back to you.... HTH!!

Re: Passport Question
haha funny you should ask...
We are getting married in july 2010 too and FH just came back from filing the papers with USPS..
They are saying that it will take 4-6 weeks!!! However, you do need an appointment to file the papers with USPS. Also, a passport photo and tons of ssn's from mom and dad.
eta: yes, he will need a birth certificate witha raised seal. And if this is his first passport, we were not able to do it online.

Re: Passport Question
I had to renew mine and get one for my dauhter 8 months at the time and we got it the same day because we were going to a funeral on monday and this was friday. We had to pay $150 for mine and $160 for the baby because she was a first time appilcant. Apply now because it save you tons of money. Yes, you will need the original passport. All the info you need is on the website. You have to call and make an appointment and you must have proof of travel if you do this. It must be like 2 weeks before travel.
Good luck

Re: Passport Question
I wouldn't suggest this, but my husband got his two days before a trip by going to a government building in the city. You can get it super rushed there, but it was expensive and stressful. We had trouble getting his birth certificate otherwise I would have killed him!

I needed a new one when I went to Canada in July. I applied for one and thought it would only take two weeks...It def. takes 4 weeks! Thank god I have an Italian passport too!! FH would have been pissssed if we had to cancel the trip lol
You have plenty of time. I would apply for it now though so it it one less thing to worry about!

Re: Passport Question
I just got mine this summer. If you go on USPS.com you can find post offices that you don't need an appt. for. All you need are 2 passport size pics, CVS does them, birth cert. & photo ID. They do say it takes 4-6 weeks but mine came in the mail 2 weeks later, my birth cert. came back 3 days before.

Re: Passport Question
You can do it in person it cost extra if you are worried about sending the birth cert. in the mail.If you do it in person the office is in the village and you get it the same day, just make sure you fill out all the forms correctly before and have everything they ask..
Though in the mail lately since they have the post office help them, they come in less than two weeks
