FH and I are leaving on a cruise 4 days after the wedding. I do not have a passport so I will have to apply for one now, but what about the name change? How long does it take to change your name after the wedding?

Re: Passport Questions
i'm not sure how long it takes to change your name, but if it's only 4 days after the wedding, I would think your license and everything else you have would have your old name on it. I would want everything to match so I didn't run into any problems

Re: Passport Questions
i would stick with your maiden name and not change ANYTHING until you get back. it will probably take a few days to get everything changed and you can't apply for a passport now with your married name anyway. it does take like 6 weeks or longer to get a passport.

Agreed. You will have to apply for your passport with your maiden name. Then after the wedding, when you change your name, you will have to pay for another passport with your new name, along with your license and everything else.

Re: Passport Questions
I'm just using my maiden name and then after the honeymoon is over filing to have a name change on the passport. Didn't want to worry about it.

Re: Passport Questions
I'd stick with the maiden name just because I doubt you will have gone and changed everything just four days after the wedding, this way there are no problems to deal with

No, I read up on this and I believe it was if you apply for a name change on your passport within 1 year of it being issued, it won't cost you anything.

Re: Passport Questions
Use your maiden name for everything...name changing is a PROCESS ....in which YOU have to do all the running around..so chances are you won't be doing this until yout get back from your honeymoon -- I've been through this with my 1st marriage...going to the Social Security office is NOT fun!!

Re: Passport Questions
name changing on a passport takes about 6 weeks so you wont have time to do it, not only that but you won't even have your marriage certificate yet. Usually comes in a week or 2 and when it comes in it will be when you get back from your HM so you wont have a certificate yet.
But yeah just use your maiden name, i did that and its what they suggest for you to do. I already had a passport so didnt have to apply for one. So i understand why youre concerned since you have to apply for a new one, then after wedding change your name on the passport.
