Re: Passport Rumor...
it depends on the airline. while the government has relaxed rules on what you need to travel to canada, mexico, the carribean and the bahamas, individual airlines can still prevent you from traveling without a passport because if the country you are traveling to rejects you for not having a passport, or another reason, the airline has to pay to fly you back to the US. if you are curious i would contact the airline you are traveling on.

the reason i know this is because FH works for customs - i didn't pull that out of thin air.

Interesting. I never heard of that. Might depend on what islands the boat is stopping at. Did you check the government website?

We just went on Royal Caribbean (May 2007) and we did need a passport to re-enter back into the US we were in the Bahamas. They also use it for check in but you can use a birth certificate too.

Re: Passport Rumor...
Through September 30th, you do not need a passport to exit or enter the US. But you DO need proof that you applied for one. However, the places you are visiting on your cruise may require a passport to enter. So check with the Consulate for each of your destinations.
