Passports

Passports

Ok..I posted about this already, but I don't think my question was clear. I'm going on my honeymoon to St. Lucia on May 2, 2006. I have my birth certificate and driver's license. Is this enough? I went to Aruba last year (June, 2005) and they were accepted.

I can apply for the passport now and pay some extra $$ to help ensure I get it in time; however, if my birth certificate and passport will suffice, I'd rather not take the chance of mailing my birth certificate to them and risk not having the passport or my birth certficate. Has anyone here left and came back from St. Lucia or the Caribbean, after Jan 1, 2006 using only their birth certificate and driver's license to gain entry? Thank you!

Re: Passports

Don't quote me, but I think that you are fine. I know that they are changing the rules and that after 12/31/06, you will need a passport to go everywhere. I am pretty sure that you are ok, but call the airline and double check with them, or call your travel agent. Good luck

check on the government's website, they are changing a lot of the rules.
I would get one just to be safe. You don't want to take chances with stuff like that.

I am going to St. lucia for my honeymoon from April17th-april 24th. Although i have my passport, my FH does not. Our travel agent advised us that he can take this trip with a birth certificate and drivers license but as of 12/06 a passport will be required

As taken from http://travel.state.gov/travel/cbpmc/cbpmc_2225.html

In the proposed implementation plan, which is subject to a period of initial public comment, the Initiative will be rolled out in phases, providing as much advance notice as possible to the affected public to enable them to meet the terms of the new guidelines. The proposed timeline will be as follows:

December 31, 2006 – Requirement applied to all air and sea travel to or from Canada, Mexico, Central and South America, the Caribbean, and Bermuda.
December 31, 2007 – Requirement extended to all land border crossings as well as air and sea travel.

So you wouldn't need the passport . . . .

Yes, you can apply at the post office and give them the money there.
I am doing the same thing as you but, oh well, I want to go on my honeymoon!!

ETA: You better hurry up because it takes up to 6 weeks to get the passport, and they take your birth certificate, which you also need to apply for a marriage license!
