Passports?

Passports?

Girls who've applied for them recently... how fast and painless are they to get??

Trying to get one for a trip in 2010. My mother is trying to have me apply for one THIS week, (as if I don't have enough to worry about!!)

It's painless and relatively quick. If you apply for one this week, you're going to have to change the name on it after you get married (if you do it within a year, it's free) or you'll have to book all travel done on the passport under your maiden name.

It only takes a couple of weeks (as low as 2 and up to 2 months) to get the passport. If the trip is in 2010, why not wait till after your wedding so you don't have to do the whole name change thing?

The trip is looking like its going to be in January, so I'm trying to get it ASAP. My mom said that if I bring my marriage license I may not have to worry about the whole name change, but I'm not sure it works that way.

You won't be able to travel that way. The ticket needs to match EXACTLY what the name is on the passport. If your maiden name is on the passport, the ticket must be issued in your maiden name.

You should wait until you get your marriage certificate or you are going to have to apply for a name change in order to travel if you are changing your name.

You should wait until you get your marriage certificate. When DH and I came back from our honeymoon, our marriage certificate was waiting on our kitchen table

I took pics and applied for one right away and got everything back in a couple of weeks. It wasnt painful at all
