I have never done this but I heard it takes all day! I think you can get them expressed through the post office..I don't know how fast they get them to you but we applied for ours regular through the post office and got them within 2 weeks!

IF you ALREADY have your tickets, you can go to the passport office in Rockerfeller center and you may a lot more $$, but you fill out the forms and g back in like 2 hours and you have new passports.

If you don't have your tickets, you can go to any post office and pay for expedited shipping. Fh did this and he got his within exactly 7 days (they said it would take about 2-3 weeks).

You can go to the Post Office but, you have to pay extra to have them rush it. I think you should be fine though. But, I know they were backed up awile ago and it took forever for some reason.

I was told that you have to have your tickets, and that you have to be leaving within 2 weeks to go to the passport office.
I was also told that it does not cost more to do it that way, but expediting costs almost twice as much.

We don't have our tickets yet, but we're leaving April 1st, and I have heard horror stories about expedited passports taking more than 8 weeks and this was recently.

I'm not sure what we should do at this point...

I went to the Forest Hills office and filled out the passport application as normal and got it within 3-4 weeks. The lady even said that she noticed ppl said they were coming in sooner than expected.

i lost my passport the day before I left. You are there for a good portion of the day. There are people waiting on line when it opens and they only let a few people in at a time...once the number is meet you have to wait for the next day. There are companies who cute the line for a price and get you in but out is still a wait...Think the one I went with is rapid passport. Call Liberty travel that is where I heard about that....

last year i renewed my passport and went to the passport agency down on varick or hudson street, somewhere downtown - my sister made appointments for us around lunchtime - i was prepared to be there for HOURS but it wasn't that bad - we paid extra to rush them - and i think we had them 2-3 days later (i can't recall)... and i just stopped in, picked it up, and was out of there! much less painful than i was expecting.

you can make an appointment by phone if you have proof you are leaving in 14 days. It does take all day, and it is not a fee. This is at the regular passport agency downtown. There are other agencies that are not city agencies, and they charge you several hundred dollars to wait in line for you. I would do it through the post office expedited to be safe if you have at least 8 weeks. If you have 14 days and have a day you can take off from work, I'd do that, just make sure you call exactly 14 days in advance of your plane/cruise tickets to make an appointment, they do fill up fast.

do you know what kind of proof you need?
The company FH and I work for is based out of Canada and our boss would like FH and I to have our passports asap 'just in case' we need to travel.
Would a letter or something from them work? No, right?

We've got less than 8 weeks till we leave for our honeymoon too... so I figure worst case scenario our boss has to wait for us to go 2 weeks before the honeymoon...

you need to make an appointment...if you dont youre going to wait on a line there and theres a possibility that you will not even get seen...PLUS in order to get your passport the same day you need to have a plane ticket

ive done this twice and regardless its an all day process even with an appointment...good luck though

i suggesting calling to set up an appt...you cant do it though until 2 weeks before you leave...you get passport same day so you dont have to worry about getting it on time

if you have any questions, let me know. Ive never gotten my passport through the post office, only at the passport agency in the city

yeah its $95 to get your passport same day at the passport agency...expediting is like $200-something i think.

you do but in emergency situations like she had above they will accomodate you...the thing is you have to wait on a line if you didnt make an appt and take the chance of not being seen that day, thats the problem
