$96 each!!! Is there any alternative? My FH and I are going to a Sandals Jamaica honeymoon and we were told that we need a passport but that is so much money!!!!

Re: Passports!
HOnestly, you are better off with a passport IMO. I have heard horror stories of people being turned away from flights b/c of perceived problems with the birth certificates/photo ID's.

That's what they cost. My only advice to you is to not wait too much longer. If you have to get a rushed passport, tack on another $60 (i think!) to the price.

Re: Passports!
There is no alternative. Pay the money and be grateful it doesn't have to be renewed for 10 years! Could you imagine having to pay that kind of money once every 2-4 years??

Re: Passports!
Yup..I just got mine too, send yours in soon, because you want to have your birth certificate back in time to file for your marriage liscence. It takes up to 6 weeks, although I think most people have been getting the passport back in 2-3 weeks!!

Re: Passports!
myTA told us we must have a passport (we're going to St Lucia) I think because of all the security problems we have. (don't want to say the T word!) I can't believe how expensive it is now!

as of 06, you HAVE TO have a passport when taking a cruise or going to any of the island in the carribean.
And don't wait for the last minute

I believe it's mandatory now if you're travelling anywhere tropical/carribean/europe to have a passport.

ACTUALLY GUESS WHAT MY TRAVEL AGENT TOLD ME TODAY!!!!
<<Citizens to travel to the Caribbean effective December 31st 2005 with a valid US Passport. We just received notice on Friday that the date has been changed to December 31 2006 so yes, you will be able to travel to Jamaica with an original or STATE issued original copy of your birth certificate and valid picture id driver's license. You can not use a photocopy nor can you use a hospital issued copy of a birth certificate. Hope this helps. >>>

honestly, get the passport anyways, at this rate who knows what the price is going to be next year or in 2 years and when you really need it, you will pay even more... the passport is valid 10 years and I am sure you will have a need for it sooner or later... just my opinion...

I agree. US Customs almost didn't let my BF back in the country when we were coming back from Mexico because they thought her birth certificate was a fake. Must better off with a passport.

I totally would NOT take that kind of chance. In a post 9-11 world do you want to be stuck in a foreign country dealing with customs and immigration because you didn't want to spend $96? Think of how the honeymoon would be ruined by 3 days in the custody of some government while it all gets sorted out.
