Past brides: What little things did you do/make at your wedding that you think stood out for your guests?

Original post by tinkerwdw

Hey girls-

I am at the 30 day mark here and I am trying to think what little DIY projects and things I should make, and what would just be a waste of my time. Also, if anyone has any interesting/different ideas that they did that they think stood out for their guests, please share!

The only things I am thinking of doing so far:
candle votives
cry packs
menu
signature drink (but have no clue what)
picture guest book

any other ideas welcome please!!! :)

slipper basket (which I still have because I forgot it in my trunk)

petal cones with herbal mix for toss

photocube cardbox

scavenger hunt list for the table cameras

hand ceremony

sand ceremony

menus at each setting

edible sugar cookie favors (people flipped for these and asked if I had any extra to take with them)

votive placecards (another one people flipped for)

men/women bathroom baskets (people took almost everything in them. I laughed so hard when I got them back and they were so bare!)

I had 8 bell ringers. People loved them! They thought it was the cutest and most unique idea they had ever seen at a wedding.

Wanted soooo badly to do a personalized runner and I have all the stuff for it, but I never got the chance to do it. That's really my only real regret.

Also did cute OOT boxes for the guests at the hotel. People were still talking about them the day after, at the breakfast.

Custom Homer and Marge caketopper

we dedicated and played all our siblings wedding songs - they were really touched

Bell ringers are people In my case, they were 7 neices and 1 nephew who we couldn't 'fit' into the bridal party.

So what they did was start the ceremony, by announcing the bride was coming. They came in ringing their little crystal bells, before the processional.

The things that people mentioned to me as standing out, weren't really the DIY prjects. We got a lot of compliments on the food, the band & the centerpieces.

I did the programs myself, but nothing crazy, & I did the place cards & table numbers myself & put the table numbers in little leaf place card holders. A few peopel noticed & liked that, but I loved it, so I am glad I did it.

I also bought my own candles & vases filled with leaves to decorate the hall & I don't know how many people appreciated it, but I think it added to the overall ambience I wanted & I was happy with it.

So, really, don't stress too much.

Oh, the other thing people liked was the bathroom basket my mom did.

I forgot my programs! hahahah they were MY favorite

And the best thing I included on them was a note to send us their pictures. People have already emailed us with their pics from the day. That was nice to come home to!

I am doing my own program which will be scroll programs. I am also having a pic of me and FH on the top of the cake as my cake topper. I think the main things that stick out are the entertainment, the centerpieces and the food.

I wish I had scanned a photo, but behind our sweetheart table on a mantle I put (in anique frames) my parents, granparents, and DH's parents and grandparents wedding photos. I didn't think anyone would really notice, but it turned out to be something everyone thought was a special touch. People went up to it all night to look. My photographer got some great shots of the actual mantle (I decorated it with rose petals) and of guests looking at them.

I'm doing a a collage of family and friends and I have a bell ringer.
There's the slipper basket, petal cones, photocube cardbox, scavenger hunt list for the table cameras, hands ceremony reading, rose ceremony for ceremony, having mom's light the taper candles..these are just ideas. I'm not doing all of them.

ok i have a question what do you mean by a scavenger hunt list for the table cameras
and what are the hands ceremony reading, and rose ceremony for ceremony

Re: Past brides: What little things did you do/make at your wedding that you think stood out for your guests?

We did a few things. DH and I are both actors so we tried to incorporate our love of theatre into our wedding. Our rehersal dinner invites were tickets. We had the guests reply by tearing off the ticket stubb and writing yes or no on it. Our programs DH designed. They were made to look like theatre Playbills except we called them Weddingbills. They were complete with headshots and bios of all the major players. Finally, we named our tables after shows that we have been in since we started dating.

I know that these are very specific to us (or another couple that loves theatre), but I think the key is to find things that are important to you both. Once you focus in on an idea ,or a few, you can figure out unique and fun ways to incorporate it into your wedding.
