We were originally thinking of doing piggy banks with chocolate coins (we met at a bank and were trying to incorporate that). Now we're thinking that it would be a complete waste of $$ and not of use to our guests.
FH and I are trying to stay on a budget of about $500 for our favors. The guest list is up to about 240 as of right now. Where did you find your bottles of wine? Do you know pricing? If we were to do bottles, it would be one per couple. I've been searching online, but there are so many brands and kinds of wines to choose from that its been overwhelming for me.
How do you decide what kind of wine to get? If it was affordable, I'd do champagne because I love it. Thats kind of out of the question, as splits of champagne I've seen are about $10 for a decent brand.
Any suggestions?

instead of a full bottle you could always do a half bottle..thats what im doing-you get like 2 glasses out of it....i would ask the liquor stores near you-they usually can order it for you. And im sure they could help you with samples to let you pick out the kind you want. Im not sure how much champagne would cost...

I am not sure how much they are, but try looking for Rosa Regale. It is a dessert wine and delicious. They make them in the 187 size. We used them for our wedding favors and everyone loved them. You might be able to find out the price on costellobanfi.com.

Thats great! I am so clueless when it comes to good wine. I enjoy santa margarita pinot but that is more than we can afford.
How do you pick between white, red, chardonnay??

Mix em up. This way guests can switch if they prefer.

I'd go with red just because I don't like white wine. If I had to choose I'd probably go with a Merlot or a Pinot Noir - just personal preference.

we knew we wanted to do a pindar wine since they're pretty easy to find at a discount. so one weekend we took a drive out to their vineyard and did a tasting there ... and just picked the one we personally enjoyed the most.
the vineyard only gives a 10% discount off the case price ... so we didn't buy it there.
the local liquor stores actually are more willing to work with you on pricing.
we ended up buying ours at bottles & cases in huntington ... i think it was around $4.99/ bottle (in the stores it goes for around $7 or $8 regular price)
