I know we get cake and an additional dessert as well...do they put both out for each guest? How do they work it..I want to know if I should get boxes for the cake as well

yes they put both out. I think the other dessert comes out before the cake. HTH

The other desert comes out as part of the last course of the meal and that is before the cake cutting
