Do the officiant's get invited to the reception? I always thought they did. If so, how do you go about inviting them? I would think they are NOT expected to give a gift, so do they get a formal invite or a verbal invite?? My mother is confusing me!!!

I would only invite an officiant if they had a relationship with your family that extends beyond the wedding ceremony.

I would think you only have to invite your officiate if you are close with him or her. If the person performing your ceremony is a family friend or someone you have a close relationship with, then I think you should but if not, I wouldn't.

Re: Pastor, Deacon, Rabbi, Priest Question...
I am inviting my Pastor (he is performing the mass) to my reception, by sending him a formal invititation. Even though he is not going to bring a gift but he should still be invited the way everyone else is via formal invitation.

I invited my deacon to the reception. He hasn't responded yet, but I think for the most part that they do not come. They perform weddings every weekend, if they went to every reception they wouldn't have a life of their own!

Re: Pastor, Deacon, Rabbi, Priest Question...
I asked my Reverend if you would like to attend and he said he will go to the cocktail hour for a little while. He said he felt honored that he was invited, but had to decline. I have only met this man twice, but I wasn't sure of what the right thing to do was, so I asked anyway. I was a little releaved, because where would I seat him and who would he mingle with....he wouldn't know anyone.

That's what I'm worried about. I don't want to shaft him by not inviting him but I don't want him to feel funny about saying no or coming and not knowing anyone. That's why I may just invite him to the RD (he is not close to family)

Re: Pastor, Deacon, Rabbi, Priest Question...
We invited our Rev to our rehearsal luncheon & our reception. She has been a patient of mine for years, her husband was out of town that weekend so I invited her daughter in law too. I had 4 tables of co-workers & they knew all of them. If I did not have that relationship I would have just invited her to the RL.

I invited my minister. He will come to the cocktail hour, but will miss the reception because it is his mother's b-day.

Re: Pastor, Deacon, Rabbi, Priest Question...
I am not inviting mine. I don't know her (interfaith minister) closely. And to marry us is her job, unless you are close to the person who is marrying you, you don't need to invite them.
