I had always hoped in getting married at my grandparents' church I grew up in. My family (as well a quite a few others) have had major issues with the pastor. I have another pastor who was originally a parishener there who I would prefer be the primary officiant. Just had our first meeting with the church pastor and he made it clear he would be accomodating with what he says, what is included, the other pastor can join in- but he must do the pre-marriage sessions and the vows. Should I have someone who I am frustrated with and feel is not genuine do my vows or forgo my childhood church and go the FH's church where he has no particular ties but thinks is prettier anyway??
*sigh*

Re: Pastor Issues...My childhood church or ??
This is a tough decision that I really think only you can make.
Its your wedding ceremony so you dont want there to be any bumps in it. I know I was hell bent on having our marriage take place at my childhood church and not DHs, since I had a history there-communion, confirmation, etc.-so I would not part with it. BUT we didnt have an issue. Is this something you think that your family members could handle or deal with the day of your wedding? If you told them how you feel about having it there do you think they would fight you on it? If not then I would go ahead and do it at your childhood church.

Thank you so much for responding. I needed an nonbiased perspective. I think my family will keep quiet about it but I'm not sure I can stomach it yet.
I am going to call my preferred pastor and ask him what exactly has he done in the past when sharing the role. I will hopefully be confident in taking it from there. I don't know if I'm truly prepared to take the alternative, a church who doesn't know me at all...

Re: Pastor Issues...My childhood church or ??
hmm, well it sounds like neither situation is completely ideal for you. you have to weigh what youre more comfortable with- familiar church and ppl but concerns about pastor who will be a part of the ceremony, whereas with your FH church you have literally no idea of what to expect, and also no connection, which sounds impt to you. sorry i cant be of more help. GL!
