Patken Brides-Question (same post as last night with an added twist)

Patken Brides especially.
I was wondering if you were able to copy 8x10 photos at someplace like Kinko's? How is the quality? Just wondering if anything weird shows up like their name across the photo We think this is a better budget saver than ordering extra copies of photos for grandparents, siblings, etc. Thanks in advance for the replies!

Patken Brides-Question

Apparently my future husband likes to edit my posts to say something different than I wrote! I posted this question last night about Patken and he checked today to see if anyone responded. When he saw that no one did, he changed the Subject to 'Photography Brides-Question' because he thought brides may be scared to post things if asked for specifics about a vendor. He obviously doesn't understand what is posted on these boards! So, I aksed him what the hell is a 'Photography Bride' Noone is going to answer to that and he said 'Well, there have been 26 more people that have looked at it since I changed it'. He cracks me up. I believe changing one of my posts officially qualifies him as very interested in planning this wedding.

Anyway, back to the original question--can anyone answer this? Thanks so much!
Oh yeah, I am changing the subject back to 'Patken brides-Question'

Re: Patken Brides-Question

Professional photos are copyrighted so Kinkos is not supposed to copy photos for you. Usually Kinkos won't, but the internet sites will.
Also proofs are usually 4x6 or 5x6. If you blow it up to an 8x10 size you will lose quality.
Let's all be honest the prof. photographers charge way toooooo much for enlargements. They make HUGE profits off of that. If they charged a fair price than we would not be forced to look elsewhere but....
You are not allowed to do this but:
scan the photos at a very high resolution and use your photo editor to remove their name, or crop the photo and take their name off the photo, upload them to shutterfly and order a 5x7 from there. (I know Patken is going to hate me for saying this as well as the other prof. photographers)
Again I want to stress that I am not telling you that you should do this, but you asked for advise and I am on your side so I answered it.

I am SURE many photographer are not happy, but it is all true, and she asked for help. The board is about helping one another. Again, I am not saying that she should go around her photographer but......
perhaps they need to start to consider the amount they charge for enlargements. No one can make me believe that photographers pay $20+ for a 5x7.
Anyone else believe this?

Most places will NOT copy professional copies...Do you have a good scanner/printer??

You need a great photo printer to get high-quality prints.

I don't know why they charge so much!

I take my headshots to ideal photos to get reproductions made. They make you a negative for you to keep. There are several places in the city that do this for headshots so, maybe they will do it for wedding photos. Hope this helps.
