We booked Patken and I thought we had made it clear we wanted a photo-journalist as well. When I reviewed the contract at home I did not see that. When I called to confirm they said we did not have one. The price to add is not crazy, but when I asked she said they do not recommend one b/c they feel it is a waste of money??? I find it strange b/c while I was on hold they kept advertising their photo-journalism. She said based on the style in which they shoot it is a waste to get one. Did anyone run into same situation? Has anyone used them and loved their photo-journalist? Thanks Ladies!!!!

Look at my review - i had one photojournalist and one standard portrait photographer. I have to say even though I LOVE my candids - I loved my standard portraits. I have to say if i didn't get both things might not be that great only because of the fact in photojournalism you might get a back of a head or a side of someone head in your shot - your never looking at the camera which is great for most shots but for the family portraits or your close up shots that you kinda need its not the same.

Is it supposed say specifically on your contract 'photojournalist'? I have to go home and look at my contract, but if I remember correctly I was told that their photographers all did portrain and photojournalist style pics. Do they have some photogs that are portrait only and some that are photojournal?

they are all trained the same but just like any job/place you have your people who are better then others.
I can only speak of the photographers I had and the quality of work they did. I am very VERY happy with my pics and being that I am a semipro photographer it means a lot.
Doug I would say can handle both with not even thought otherwise.

I am booked with Patken, and when I met with my photographer we just told her that we like more photojournalistic photos, rather than traditional posed shots. Your photog will probably give you a nice mix, just voice what you want. I also hired a freelance photog (not associated with Patken) strictly for candids/photojournalistic shots, and to get a different perspective. In my opinion 2 is better than 1 and I can never have enough pictures!! fm me if you want her info. She's wonderful, and realllly reasonable.
edited* when I asked them about adding a 2nd photographer, they also told me it would be a waste. So i found my own!
