Patken or Duet, Help Please

Patken or Duet, Help Please

OK so assuming price is not an issue, which of the 2 would you go with. We liked both of their work, Patken has a much better video than Duet, but Duet has 2 photographers where the package we worked out with Patken only had one. Do you think we need 2 photographers with 175 people? I would love to hear good and bad opinions/reviews of both. Oh and Patken is one of the halls vendors, so that is a plus I guess. TIA

We’re not using either. We did check out Duet though and were impressed with their work, but decided to go with someone else.

I booked Duet and I'm having Jay's team- I haven't taken my e-pics yet, but I have so much faith in their work just from seeing proofs posted on the review board.

good luck deciding, photography was one of the most difficult choices for me!!

I cannot speak for either company... but as for 2 photographers. I don't think size of the wedding has anything to do with how many photographers you have, UNLESS you have a huge family and want a lot of pictures of everyone there.

You generally aren't going to want pro pictures of all of your guests -- at least not a lot of them!

We are having two photographers mainly because we want a mix of very photojournalistic photos and traditional photos. We also want a photographer with each of us getting ready (one with me and one with DH). I think it'll also be nice to have different angles, especially at the ceremony.

That said, I don't think 2 photographers are necessary at all. I'd go with who you think is giving you the best work and the best deal -- and that includes how you like their work.

Assuming you liked both of their work the same, I'd go with the 2 photographers... However, I don't think 2 photographers are necessary.

Re: Patken or Duet, Help Please

I am using Duet and really love their work that we've seen. FH and I work in Manhattan (and don't live out on LI) so the fact that they have a Manhattan office is really great for us. AND, we definitely wanted 2 photographers, so their package worked out great for us.

However, if you like them both equally and are just curious as to whether or not you need a 2nd photographer, then here's my opinion. I think it's definitely not 'necessary' because I've seen work from Angelica Glass - she works alone - and I don't think she needs a 2nd photog from what I've seen. However, we DEFINITELY wanted two because we wanted traditional and photojournalistic photos, more angles of the same thing (for example during our ceremony, have a front view and a side/back view of things like the exchange of rings, vows, etc.), also pics of FH arriving at the church while I'm still getting ready, etc etc etc. So it's a personal preference.

Go with who has the better photos. Even if there are two photogrpahers, but you are not happy with the pictures- that won't matter. If you are leaning towards one over the other, go with that one!

We looked at both patken and duet and felt that duet was better value and also liked their pictures better.
You don't have to do the video as the same company as your photographer, we didn't.

I used Patken [Vinnie] and he's AWESOME!

I met with both companies and went with Duet.. I just felt that you get much more for your money with Duet. But it's all up to which style you prefer! Their styles are VERY different....I feel Duet is pretty natural and Patken is more dramatic.

I have had really good friends use both photographers and they both had great pictures. I have to admit the one downfall of Duet....I was in this bridal party....was that the photographers were really hard to understand and every time they gave a direction no one could understand what they were saying to us. But in the end the pictures came out nicely!!! I don't think it matters between one or two photographers like others have said...I am having 250 at my wedding with only one photographer.....all that really matters is how the pictures look!!!

We met with both Patken and Duet. The work we liked best at Patken was the owner's, and he charges an extra $2,000. We thought the work of the other photogs at Patken, while competent, was a little staid. The quality and style of work throughout Duet's staff seems to be more consistent. Even with the regular photog staff at Patken, Duet was a better deal in terms of including day of photography, albums, TY notes, e-pics, etc.
