patken or velvet

patken or velvet

ok i think i narrowed down either using patken or velvet as my photgrapher and video ... i just dont know which one to use ... i am leaning more towards patken ... cause they have a stufio and they are right by my RH so i figure if it rains i can go there to take pictures cause i'mnot to thrilled on the shots that you can take inside my RH ... i just dont know if that should be a reason i pick them ... what do you think??

ETA: another consideration is that Patken's parent books are only 275 while velvets are 500

Velvets parent albums are the story book digital albums. This is just my experience.... My package quote from Velvet was just what I wanted and alot less than Patken. I also liked the video from Velvet better.

ETA: I think the regular print parent album is like 300. I don't remember because I did the upgrade. It's important to compare apples to apples. Patken was offering a lot of enlargements I didn't need or want and personally I was lost in the crowd and rushed out of there. I spoke with Doug the owner about that.

i personallt chose velvet because bob was so much more flexible than patken... he reallly works with your budget. if you really want something but cant afford it, he will cut in other places so you can get what you want. the engagement shots can be taken anywhere , where everyone a patken has the standard headshots. thats just my opinion . i was debating between the both also, until i actually went in to meet bob... and i booked him instantly!

I posted this on your repost on BHB but I'll put it here as well:

My experience with Velvet was very disappointing to me. FM me if you want details. And just remember that no vendor is perfect.

If I had it to do over again, I would go with Patken, Duet, or I think the other one I've liked lately is Imagine.

I met with both. Loved Bob and loves his photographic style but leaned to Patken due to the indoor studio in case of raining/bad weather just to take a few shoots wedding day prior to catering hall to have something diff. That and I perfered the video at Patken.

4pm is our e shoot so i will tell from this if i made the wrong descision. I haven't slept in two days worrying if i picked the right photographer. After tonight i will really know for sure.

I say velvet... but i am biased. I am using Bob and did not meet with Patken. Velvets work to me is the best i've seen. His prices are amazing. Parent albums were not a priority with me because neither set of parents care for them so i am just going to make them myself off of shutterfly. The service with Bob has been amazing. Since the time we booked him we changed our package (to lower it) and changed our date. He was nothing more than accomodating!

Wow I have seen weddings that I like from both of them. I love Camacho's wedding pics of course and one of the best weddings I have seen by Patken was Hallowedding's. I say go with your gut instinct, it is usually right.

Thank you!

I totally agree... you have to go with your gut and who you feel most comfortable with. We totally clicked with bob and booked him when we hadn't seen any reviews or anything on LIW or any other wedding site. We just loved his work, personality, family business, etc.

We ONLY met with velvet and booked at our 2nd meeting. It's nice to get reviews and see what people feel about a photographer here on LIW, but in the end you are the one who has to be with them on your wedding day and you have to choose someone you are confident in. We didn't want many posed pictures and bob and his wife did a great job of capturing our entire day... they knew exactly what we wanted.

IMO, velvet and patken have a completely different style!

Good luck!!

I dont know if you have made your decision...but

I went to Patken absolutely loving their style of pics. I was at a bridal show tonight and they were there and I couldnt stop looking at their work.

I think that Patken has a sexy edge to it. There are photos that you would not see in other studios.

Patken had given me a quote..and I went to Velvet tp see what Bob would offer me.

Bob does not havethe small books that I want but said that if I got them for him he would do them.

Everything that I had at Patken Bob had also but for 2,000 cheaper...although I got less larger sized pics and no wedding party pics to give out. But that wasnt a big deal for me.

Bob works with what you want. You may not be impressed with his studio and that he doesnt have a place to take pics inside but there are gardens that do and RHs that do also.

They are very similar...I just havent decided yet either.

I get two photographers too! (through Velvet) You and I should compare quotes! They tried to have me have my brother and FH good friend to sign up so I get more of a discount. My brother went with Sherwood Triart (IM green with envy) and friend went with ADA (no comment)

OK tomorrow I am typing out the two packages. Velvet has the two photographers and I really like that to capture the moment when our eyes first meet....the whole thing with planning the dress so that he is shocked when he first sees me.

When I get angry I picture myself in a peacock suit just to make him look in horror like oh my gosh I am marrying a weirdo!

LOL
