I'm really stuck on this one Jim Hjelm dress to be used as my bridesmaids dress but its pricey $220 without alterations. What do u think of the idea of me paying for half as part of their gift? Its a dress they can wear again too!

It's really your call. If you can afford it, why not? It's a really nice gesture.

Have you tried RK Bridal or considered ordering the dresses online through netbride.com? their prices are always alot less.
I know a bridal salon in Flushing that includes the alterations in their prices. I've gotten a few dresses there for BPs I've been in and I'm going to get my girls dresses there also but I think $220 is around the average these days. The boutique in flushing is called Charisol, if you google them you can get the number and give them a call, I'm sure theyd give u the price over the phone....good luck

I think that is average. Try Here Comes the Bridesmaid on 14th. They do not do alterations but they offer great prices in Jim Hjelm. They are also negotiable. I have purchased a JH there before.

I dont think paying for something for YOUR wedding is a gift. It is a nice gesture but I wouldnt have that be the only gift for them. Also did you check RK bridal they have Jim Hjelm for cheaper with their no frills program

I agree about it not really being a gift and I also second trying RK Bridal... you can also price them out on the internet and if there's a better price somewhere else RK will beat it by 5% I think.

Re: Paying for half the dress as a BM dress
This would only be part of their gift - I'm trying to lessen the burden for them to be in the wedding. I think $220 is a lot for my girls to spend on a dress so I was thinking of a way to help them out. I was thinking of paying for half and then getting them each something that goes with their personality. For example, Met tix for my BM that is a diehard fan, a coach wristlet for another etc.

I think it would be really nice of you to pay half but I don't think they would expect you to. I'm going to try and keep mine a little under or around $200, that is what my BM's expect it to be.

Re: Paying for half the dress as a BM dress
I think it depends on their financial situation and yours I know my BM's can not afford much so I have found dresses for about $125-$150 for them which is reasonable and they are cute so hopefully they will wear them again. Personally I think over $200 before alterations is a lot. If I really wanted them to wear that dress I would def offer to pay half. If I could not afford to do that I would opt for a more inexpensive dress.

I say go for it...if you can afford it do it...and then you don't have to think of a gift for them which could make life easier.

Re: Paying for half the dress as a BM dress
220 is a high average, but not out of the ballpark. Maybe just pay for alterations? I considered paying for half if they get too expensive, too. I think it's a nice idea if you can afford it. This way no one is under too much financial pressure. I feel bad because my wedding requires everyone to stay at a hotel for two nights and travel, so, I'm paying for hair and makeup.

I would say its about average too! But I am just like you, I feel so bad asking my girls to spend money on their dress, or anything to do with the wedding lolz..but if you have the money and you want to do it..go ahead! It's def a nice gesture! And I love your idea of also getting them something that goes with their personality!

Re: Paying for half the dress as a BM dress
I think it would be reallyyyy sweet and thoughtful of you to pay for half. And it really lifts some of their burden. Unfortunately, I can't afford to contribute to the girls' dresses so I chose cheap ones from David's Bridal (but they really won't be able to wear them again).
