Sassyz75 - That would TOTALLY **** me off - I can understand where you're coming from 100%. Trust me - I personally plan to pay for their meal and I try to treat all people with repsect, regardless of their job. Anyway - I think being a musician is a totally cool and respectable profession, so I'm surprised your mom gets treated that way. Regardless - I will cut costs elsewhere - I guess I won't be having flowers :)

We are paying 1/3 plate for vendors. It's funny though, because our band stated that we could order them pizzas if we want, but the hall doesn't allow outside food to be brought in. So basically we are forced to feed them a $40 meal each.

OK - now tipping is a totally different story - I was told by my company that most people do not tip the band, but most people do pay for meals. That is what I plan to do. I can't buy all of their meals AND tip - that is where I draw the line.

You can get flowers.Just write a list of what is most important to both of you and then cut where you have to.You can still have a beautiful wedding with everything you want.

Novemberbride - I know - I was just kidding :) We are cutting our flower and invitation budget though. You just can't do everything, ya know?

If its Not in your contract I would talk to the band leader. Our band didn't start until 8:00pm. I asked the band leader if they would like a meal and he said no thanks. We upped thier tip and everyone was happy. Since our photographers and videographer were with us all day we gave them a meal.

Cut back on your favor budget. That is an easy place to cut from.

When I was discussing this with my site manager, his reaction surprised me. He said something like 'Order them a pizza. They're working for you. Does your boss buy you a $100 meal?' Although most catering halls I'm assuming would not allow it, there may be some out there that would actually let you supply your vendors with a less expensive alternative for a meal. If your contract with your band says you have to provide a meal, does it specify that it has to be the same meal that your guests receive? They need to eat...especially photographers, videographers and vendors that are with you from the time you are getting ready.

From what I have heard, all vendors that will be present at your wedding should receive a meal- on you. The hall I have booked, along with many others give you a 50% discount on all vendors, while some may, if you use house vendors, give you vendor meals for free.

Hope this helps!

Re: Paying for the band's meal?

Emily, I would feed them. Most reception places give you a good rate to feed your vendors. Since the band is playing for such a long time I'm sure they will get hungry. My reception is at Carlyle and they gave me a $50 pp rate for all vendors. That is a huge decrease from my regular guest plate price. LOL

Re: Paying for the band's meal?

To any Crest Hollow brides: Do you know what their policy is with regard to the price to feed vendors? Do they have to be 'house vendors'? I am using a Hank Lane band (not a Crest Hollow house band) and B rett M atthews (they are a house vendor).

I guess maybe I'll feed the band, but then not tip them? (according to what Emily7 said she was told by them).
Any input or suggestions?

Re: Paying for the band's meal?

I say that vendors should have their own table and eat...my band says they don't want to eat during the reception...they eat during the cocktail hour then thats it for the rest of the night...I think I still may have a table set for them.
