Paying for the guys tuxedos? Long-ish Ques.

Paying for the guys tuxedos? Long-ish Ques.

We have a very small bridal party. 2 to be exact, a Best Man and a MOH.

FH asked me if he should pay for the Best Man's tuxedo. My answer was No, because I didn't pay for my sister's dress (MOH).

He asked me what he's supposed to do when they go to order the tuxes out and his best man just stands there.

Now, my question isn't Should we pay for the tuxedo or not, but rather: Why would guys assume they don't have to pay for their own attire???

I know of brides and grooms who have paid for the guys tuxedos as a nice gesture, but is that in lieu of a bridal party gift? We already purchased thank you gifts, well over $100 each. If we have to pay for the best man's tux, then I'm going to feel obligated to spend more money on my MOH (she's my sister after all!!)

What would you do?

if you pay for his tux, that is his gift, i wouldnt get him anything else.

i have never heard of the groom paying for the tuxes unless that is there gift..

I think most men know that they are supposed to pay for their own tuxes when they accept the honor of being in a bridal party. I have never heard of a groomsman asking or assuming otherwise. I wouldnt pay for it.

I've never heard of that...Sure, it would be a nice thing to do, but it's definitely not the norm.

My FH went to pick out the tuxes on his own and then sent an e-mail saying, 'This is how much they are, you need to get measured, etc...'

Maybe your FH could just do that to take out any awkwardness?

FH was super pro-active and purchased the bridal party gifts back in November (wedding is in June). Thankfully we have only two people to buy for. I guess if he pays for the tuxedo, then he gets to keep the nice gift for himself!!

(hmmm...maybe that was his alterior motive all along....)

That might work actually, since it's hard for the two of them to find a time when they can both meet up.

My assumption was that the guys knew they had to pay for their own tuxedos, but when FH asked me that question, I was a bit dumb-founded. And then I thought maybe I was having a Bride-Moment and I was out of touch with how things are done nowadays.....

Thanks for all your input! I thought maybe I was out of touch and didn't know the latest protocol when it came to the tuxedos!
