FH and I wanted to pay off some vendors and the hall this month just so it's less to worry about the last month but I'm kinda worried about doing this after some people keep telling me to leave somewhat of a balance with all the vendors to ensure they do the 'right thing'. We also went to the hall on Sunday and we were going to pay them off for 290 people (our min) and they pretty much told us to wait until November. Is this weird?
So I ask WWYD? Did anyone ever have any problems with paying off vendors ahead of time?

i would (and am) waiting to pay off the vendors to this month, only because you never know what might happen in between now and November. What if your minimum is over 290, then you would need to pay the venue more. What if one of your vendor can't make the event and something happens and you want to cancel the vendor. It is easier to lose the deposit then to lose the full amount. If you are worried you will spend the money, keep it in your savings account, that way you will earn some interest on the money while you wait to pay in November :)

We paid off our minimum about a month ago and are leaving the rest until the week of the wedding...If you have more than your minimum then I say why not pay it off.

I wouldn't pay off until it gets closer. Only because I've heard stories and even had friends who have lost out on money because business went out of business or something else has happened and then you are screwed out on your money. I have deposits paid and will not be paying anything off until that week or night.
I have the cash....but I just put them in envelopes with the balances ready to go so I don't spend it.

All of our vendors have a payment schedule so I'm just going with that. I'm not giving them a dime until they tell me I need to. (So for the RH, they need 70% [of our minimum] by Sept. 5th and the balance the Monday before the wedding. And that's exactly when and what I'm paying them.)
I would discourage paying off the entire thing so early, but you could probably pay off a good chunk of your minimum now so your final balance isn't so huge. (Actually my RH told me to only pay 70% of my MINIMUM, not the higher number we project, just in case we're closer to our minimum than we think we're going to be.) We have wedding savings and checking accounts so we just keep the money in there and pay it from there when they tell us to. I know some people like to pay off vendors a little at a time or early, but I tend to think that I'd rather hold on to my own money than have the hall hold it. JMO.

I'd so pay it off when its absolutely necessary (when your hall tells you tocome in)
our second payment (minimum payment) is due next weekend on the day we will finalize menus, flowers, etc.
our third and final payment is due two weeks before.
our minimum is 175 and that is all we will pay next week altho we invited 271 and know we will at least have 225!! lol

i've paid off half of my vendors. i didn't want to have to worry about paying off 15486 vendors the month before the wedding. i haven't had any problems as of yet and i've been in constant communication with all of my vendors, so i'm not concerned and honestly, that's why there are contracts

I paid off the photog, video and florist 3 months before, and the limo a month before...
For me, it helped me save extra money for tips and for the HM

hey what happened... you had 34356890 vendors yesterday... LOL...
to the original post - I paid off limo, almost all of DJ, cake, photo just yesterday. It feels better to get that money out of my savings and crossed off my 'remaining balance'. I plan on paying the rest of the hall according to their payment schedule or in person -if i go there in a few weeks, the rest of the DJ, florist, And our church next month... So really just have to worry about Day of expenses like DOC, hair/makeup and tips

We have been paying off our vendors all along so that now we only have the final RH payment. If we had the money I would have paid them too! I feel like the vendors we have are reputable , if they do screw up then we will figure it out later. I dont see them secretly hopping up and down when they get our money & thinking how they are going to screw us lol

Yea very true...but I don't think vendors intentionally try to screw you. I think crap happens and if they fall your money goes with them.
My friend lost money on a venu that closed and never got her deposit back...and then all those poor girls from a year or two or go that lost all of their money on the florist when she disappeared with everyones money. Better to play it safe.

we had everyone paid off 3 1/2 weeks before the wedding. It was fine and we had nothing left to stress about.
