Payment Schedules for Reception Hall

Hi Girls...

I had a quick question about the payment schedules required by the reception halls. What is typical?? Are the schedules you give them negotiable?? Can you charge these payments?? We're planning on booking very soon but w/in the first 3 months they want like $5,500 or so and since I'm graduating from law school and we're moving we're kinda short on cash right now. Thanks so much!!!

We had 4 payments to them. You can make more if u want. My hall said u can charge all of them except the last one. HTH

my hall only allows your first payment (deposit) to be charged. there are about 5 payments.

At my hall, we had 5 pymts (1 every 2 months until you had completed the 5 pymts) and we had to pay in cash or check.

Word to the wise... don't pay more than you are required to... you never know what may happen in the future and most of these places are very unwilling to give back your money...

Our hall only allowed the deposit to be charged - everything else was cash/check.

After the deposit, we had 4 payments due every two months. We just made the 4th payment this month. Nothing else is due til the week before the wedding (full balance due then).

I also agree that you should not pay any more than you are required to because you just never know if anything will happen or if you have any issues that you want them to resolve etc.

Since we booked in January and my wedding is in August, we have to make 3 payments. So, including our deposit, all of the payments should equal $5,000. All but the final payment we are allowed to pay via credit card.

the deposit was allowe dto be a check, cash or credit card. everything else had to be cash or check. and the final payment has to be 2 weeks before cash or check. I think we had about 4 or 5 payments. Not sure cause I didn't pay them, my father took care of that. But i'll ask him.

All we had to put down was the deposit. No payments due until 6 weeks before the wedding, which I think is 70%. That was one of the reasons we picked our place...we couldn't afford these gigantic payments some places expected.

We had a deposit - Two additional payments and then final payment week before wedding

we are not allowed to charge anything...everything was cash or check. We made a 20% deposit after our tasting to confirm. another 25% due in August, another 25% due sometime next year and the balance a week before the wedding date.

reason they don't allow credit cards typically is because credit cards charge the business a percentage for the credit card service. Sometimes its a huge percent of the charge so then the hall would have to charge you as a customer extra to cover the cost unless they incorporate it with in the cost of the wedding all ready.

That and you can always dispute the payment and retract it if you decide not to be married there.

We never tried to charge our payments, so I don't know if they take credit cards. I think at some halls the schedule is negotiable, so talk to them!

Our schedule was:

$1,000 deposit
$2,000 two months after deposit
$2,000 two months after the last payment
half the remaining balance due 2 months before the wedding
the remaining balance based on final head count 24 hours before the wedding (by bank check or money order)

We booked in November for an August wedding. If we had longer, I'm sure the payments would have been different.

Our hall wanted $1000 deposit than $1000 ever other month thereafter for a total deposit of $5000 with the remaining balance due two weeks prior to the wedding.

ETA: I don't know if they accept credit cards or not . . . I'm not sure, but I don't think they do. I know the final balance definitely has to be paid via certified check. cash or money order. We booked in July 06 for a Sept 07 wedding.

Honestly, I think most halls are negotiable. I am lucky that my parents are paying for the reception but the payment schedule is 10% deposit, 40% 6 months before and 50% the night of (I think). You can pay the first two payments via cc and last by cash or certified check. But my parents wanted miles so they are just charging a % every month until the night of so the day of the wedding they will only owe something like $1000. Why not get the credit card miles if you can?

We have 4 'set' payments I know they let you pay more but I don't know aobut less - I would call them to inquire and see if at the least you can push your payments back a little.

yeah we cant pay by credit card and i wouldnt even if we could

I have about 6 payments before i have to pay the balance.

I have 3 payments of $3500 and 3 payments of $4500

I hadto pay a $1000 deposit and then the balance is due 2 weeks before the wedding. No scheduled payments in between. We are allowed to pay evrything by credit card except the final payment. I plan to do this each month. I will pay the hall a certain amount , lets say $1000 using my credit card and then make a payment to the credit card for $1000 right away. I am doing this so I can get the points/miles on my credit card. I am trying to get enough points for at least one free airline ticket for the honeymoon.
