i want to buy pearls for my bridesmaids because i want the girls to wear them for the wedding--one of those things i'm sure about--and i think it would be a really nice gift, something classic they'll have forever. everything i've looked at has been upwards of $200, and while i'm willing to spend that (there are only 4-5 of them), i feel like they might be embarrassed to receive something so pricey.
do you think it's awkward to buy them something so expensive? what are you guys giving as gifts?
also, does anyone know where i could get reasonable prices on something simple like a string of pearls?

Re: pearls
You can look at Macys sometimes they have great jewelry sales!! But 200 I think is a decent gift depending on how much your bms are going to be paying for their dresses and hair thats how im baseing it .... HTH

Re: pearls
Personally I would be so touched if someone bought me pearls for being in their wedding so I wouldn't feel like it would be awkward to get them that gift.
if that is what you want to get them then do it....I think it is so nice of you to do that for your girls...think about how much time, effort, and money they are putting into being in your wedding....I think it is worth it.

Re: pearls
i would be totally touched if i got pearls, but then again i would prolly end up making jewelry for my BMs. I would try searching the web for cheaper strands. but yea, pearls aren't cheap...

Re: pearls
I dont want to sound snobby or stupid but $200 isn't around average for a bm gift? How much does everyone else plan on spending?

Re: pearls
Personally, I would have LOVED it if I received something as beautiful as pearls as a BM gift. All I ever got was some cheap trinket that collected dust.
I would definitely go with macy's...if you get enough coupons you can usually get stuff really reasonable.
