I posted a while back about a second cousin that invited fh and i to their wedding. We went back and forth about why we were invited, should we go or not. So in the end the parents of the couple said to FSIL that they invited us because my fh is always forgotten as a family member because he talks to no one in his family (true) and when they received our STD the parents (fh's cousin) thought it would be nice to invite us to their child's wedding.
So we said we would attend. FINE. Now fh gets another card for get this...... A ENGAGEMENT PARTY one week before the wedding. I thought he was f i n g with me but he isn't. WHO THE HELL HAS A engagement party a week before their wedding? YOU GOT BALLS!!!!
Now i wish we declined because fh and i can't afford to give the $200 for the wedding as is and now we got to fork over a gift for a engagement party.
What do you think of that???

and this is the couple that sent us a card (invite to their wedding) with no reply card and a index card saying we are sorry we forgot about you but we would like you to attend. I am like seriously this is bad .. REAL bad.
IF fh made a mistake and it is a shower I will completely understand.. but fh swears it says engagement party. I will see the actual invite tomorrow.

kinda sounds like they're just being greedy....i would go but split the gift up between the wedding and the eparty....$50 for the engagement and $150 for the wedding....

sounds like they spent more than they planned to on the wedding so theyre throwing another party to get more gifts.. and the index card in your invitation???? totally stupid and it sounds like theyre adding people from their B list to get more gifts. i would tell them to kiss my a$$.

An engagement party should be at least 6 months before the wedding (I think thats the ettequete I heard). That is the craziest thing I ever heard of.
Maybe they can fit in a bridal shower somewhere in between the e-party and the wedding
