Re: Pencils

Uh, no. No one with any florist experience is helping me, but I will have plenty of helpers. I do buy flowers all the time and do my own arrangements. I work in Manhattan and whenever I get out of work early I go to the wholesale flower district and buy flowers to take home--it's around 28th and 7th. A lot of the shops will sell to the general public, especially later in the day (not dawn) and they want to get rid of what they have.

Anyway, since I don't have experience I'm sticking with roses, and no real 'arrangements' because I don't want to be going crazy with all those bouquets and CPs two days before my wedding. And I'm planning on practicing several times over the months before the wedding how to hand-tie a rose bouquet using Costco roses. Then I'll have the roses for my dining table! It's not hard to do a simple hand-tied bouqet without greens, and the centerpieces will just be a looser version of the same thing. I've seen loads of descriptions of how to make a bout. The only thing I don't want to make is a corsage, so I'm going to order one for my mom (my fiance's mother and all our grandparents have passed.) From what I understand, we'll get the roses two days beforehand, we'll have to use strippers to get off the thorns and leaves, and we'll recut the stems so the roses can drink. Then the day before we'll do the bouquets and CPs and put them in water, ready to transport to Timber Point the day of the wedding.

I think I'm getting my roses from freshroses.com--I've seen a lot of recommendations for them, and they've been in business a long time.

We're on a really tight budget and this is one of the big ways we're saving money. I LOVE flowers, and I would hate to skimp on flowers for my wedding. This way I can still have loads of roses and not pay much. And I know I'll get what I want this way, too. It's not the way to go if you're not crafty at all, or if you're going to be really busy right before the wedding, but I'm taking a couple of days off work.

Good luck!
