Our property is not that wide only 60 feet, so there is enough for one car to fit in front of my house. This is also because there is a fire hydrant at the start of our property line. So anyway my neighbor must have 6 cars and their property is the same size. His daughter parks her car in front of our house every day. Sometimes for days on end without moving it. Now the only problem I have is that during the week I get home before DH so I park in the driveway and then he parks behind me . I leave before him so I have to move his car to get my car out. It is a real pain in the a$$. I always park in the street when I have the chance but that is usually very rarely because she is always parked there. I say O WELL what are you going to do and leave it at that. BUT my DH is LIKE I am going to say something... I know that this is going to turn into a huge thing. The daughter is kind of loud (she actually likes to argue with her FI in her car parked in front of my house!) I know she wont respond well to it. I don't want to cause problems because these are our neighbors and we live on village block and the house are very close. Everyone is always outside....
So his solution is to start parking in front of their house everyday!!! So yesterday, the father moved one of their cars (literally he must have drove around the block) my DH ran outside and parked in his spot!!! It really was funny but ridiculous at the same time. He thinks well maybe he will see how it feels to have someone park in front of your house for days and be inconvenienced.
Anyone ever have this problem? I mean I feel silly cuz we don't own the street but DH says it is common courtesy.

Re: people parking in front of your house
Maybe I am wrong but I don't think the parking space in front of your house is actually your property.
I thought people just usually don't park in front of other's houses if they have space in front of their own house.
I never park in front of someone's house if there is space in front of my own house. I guess since they have so many cars she does that.

Re: people parking in front of your house
I just went through something like this over the weekend. The house across the street from us is rented. I don't know what they where thinking but they parked both of their work trucks at the end of my drive way. Making it difficult for us to get in and out of our drive way.
I don't know why they parking at the end of our drive way coz they have all this room in front on their house. Anyway I went over there and asked them very nicely if they would not park there. The guy I spoke to was very nice and said that he would take care of it so we shall see what happens when we get home tonight.

I agree with you VERY annoying but sadly you don't own the street. I can definitely understand why your DH is pissed but I don't think that there is much he can do

OMG... if somebody had the nerve to tell me not to park my car in front of their house... I would laugh my a$$ off at them. LOL
I have noticed that so many people that own houses think the spot in front of their house 'belongs to them'. LOL This cracks me up.
Best thing you can do is what you are doing... just park in his spot when you have the opportunity.

Yeah I used to feel the same way when I was younger and used to park in front of my neighbors house all the time. When you actually become a homeowner and the tables are turned you kind of know how they feel. I actually feel kind of bad now.

Re: people parking in front of your house
I used to hate this when I was living at my parents' house. Our neighbors across the street would park in front of our house in the summer because there is a tree at the bottom of the driveway and they liked to keep their cars in the shade. Actually both the neighbors across the street and the neighbors next door would park in front of our house and literally right next to our driveway AND they both had driveways, garages and space in front of their houses and were homeowners not renters.
Some people are weird.
My dad put our garbage pails there or piled up the bags of leaves there in the fall.

I agree with your DH that it's just common courtesy not to park in front of the neighbor's house. Of course it's public property and of course you can't do anything to stop it - we all know this. Still, it's annoying. I hate the fact that my beautiful bay window looks out onto a teal-colored van from the 1970's.

I can understand both points of view. Once when I went to visit my Aunt, her neighbor YELLED at me not to park in front of her house because she was expecting company. This was after I was out of the car and across the street. Meanwhile she just didn't want anyone parked there. Frankly, she didn't own the street and there were no other places to park.
On the other hand, we used to live in a 2 family house, my parents rented out the other part of the house. Anyway the tenant's car died, and the THEY MOVED. And the car was there for at least four months. My mother kept saying 'If I have to look at that eyesore everytime I leave this house any longer I don't know what I'm going to do' The town never did anything either. I think finally the guy finally came back for it.

We have the same problem...everytime we come home...the neighboris parked in front of our house and DH gets mad...I try to tell him he doesn't own the street...but he says he's calling the cops to tow the guys car.
Mind you...we have a driveway that is big enough for 3 cars...and it's double wide so we don't have to move 1 to get another out. I just laugh at DH

Re: people parking in front of your house
WOW .. I can totally feel your frustration!!
It really irritates me when people park at our house with their ratty old cars when there is more than enough room in front of their own house.
What bugs me even more .. is when these idiots park right on the edge of our driveway, making it practically impossible for us to get out .. never mind get out safely!!
Of course, when idiots do this (park on the edge of the driveway), they are also leaving us no room to put out our garbage cans.
Yes, we homeowners don't 'own' the street .. and yes, sometimes there are special circumstances .. like a party, etc .. but when it's a day-in, day-out thing that is uncalled for .. well, then .. it is just plain wrong and rude.

Re: people parking in front of your house
I understand completely. We are the first house in Franklin Square and the house next to us in GArden city. IN garden City, you can not park in the street. So everyone loves to park directly in front of my house. We even had cars stay their the whole entire weekend. We found out one the people was a man in garden City who has like 5 cars in his driveway and probably no room. he just leaves his car in front of our house which is just rude. I know it is a public street. But when we entertain, my guests have to park down the block. That is ridiculous!!!!

Honestly it is... he is obesessed. He will call me and say 'Did she park there?' I am like YES..lol but all in all he laughs and gets mad at the same time. I think the thing that bothers him the most is when she parks there for days on end. We are going away next week and he so badly wants to leave one of our cars in front of their house. Of course he is joking but how funny would that be!
