People who Named their Tables (or have been to weddings with named Tables)

Original post by SuzBride

I wanted to do this but FH thinks it would be too annoying for the guests to find their tables (cause at least numbers would be in ascending order) cause they would have to look at every table.

What are your thoughts?

Not sure how your hall does it, but Sasha (SomethingBlu) did table names at Jericho Terrace and they still put the #s on the tables, for the waitstaff.

An option is when you make the table name cards, put a # on it as well. Then on the place card put the name and number.

Yes, Jill is right!

Mine were all names, but when I gave in my layout I had them as follows:

Emerald - #1
Round - #2
Princess - #3
Radiant - #4
Heart - #5

Etc...

So JT put out my names with the pretty stand I bought and their 'normal' numbers behind.

Hey I'm gonna do this too but use diff wrods of love like romance, passion, etc. I wish I could find the thread that had that list of words. If someone finds it, please bump for me.
Thanks

We just went to a wedding a couple of weeks ago and this couple, I think IMO, did such a cool thing.

They named the tables that had something to do with or meant something special to the people sitting at the table.

For example, our table was named 'Betina Court'. On the placecard it said:
Mr & Mrs. John Smith
Betina Court

Right next to where the placecard were was instructions that basically said if you don't know why we name your table that certain name ask the people sitting at your table.

Well, I had no idea why our table was name Betina Court and asked my DH. He started laughing and smiling. He explained to me that was the place him and all his friends hung out during highschool. All of his friends were at the table who hung out at the certain spot and started talking about it.

What a great ice breaker.

I thought that was such a great idea, I wish I had done it.

My FI and I are doing the same thing! We've known each other since the 6th grade, so we are going to name the tables after places and things in common, such as the name of our junior high school, college, the neighborhood we grew up in, etc. We re also going to have pictures of all these places either on the tables themselves or as part of our guestbook.

We named our tables after CDs we liked, but also provided a number. I'll see if I can post a photo later.

I love the idea of naming the tables instead of numbering them. I wish I could do this but my hall walks the guests to their seats. I guess I like that way too.

That is a cool idea. But what about distant relatives you hardly ever see or have little to no memories of???

I have been to weddings with Table names and it wasn't a problem finding your table. It was actually a cool conversation item at the cocktail hour to see where everyone else was sitting. Once you know who else was at your table, its wasn't hard to find it.

We are doing a beach theme and we are naming all of our tables after sea shells. I found a book with over 40 different shell names. We are then putting the table names in a white frame with sea shells around it.

I like the idea of the differents wines (Chardonnay, Shiraz, Pinot) spruces it up a little bit I think.

I agree. That is an awesome idea! I love the idea of an ice breaker. I went to a wedding once and the tables were named after places that the Bride & Groom liked. It was cute, but it didn't really spark conversation.

The Country Gardens will let you use placecards with table number/names if you want to do that. They told me I had the choice, but I like the personal touch of the guest being escorted to their seats.
