People who own both a cat(s) and a dog....

please tell me how you do it. this is exhausting..... trying to socialize them and at the same time training casey not to chase the cats....ever since TJ scratched casey's eye....i'm nervous....

When FI and first moved into the house, we just had the kitty. FI decided he wanted another beagle (he had to have his old beagle put down a couple of years earlier).

It took us a long time to socialize the new (and psycho) beagle with the cat. In the beginning, we couldn't let them in the same room together. We introduced them slowly in controlled environments (he held onto the dog, me the cat).

They never ended up liking one another, but they learned to tolerate each other. Until the very end, the cat would hiss and swat at the dog, although he never had his claws out.

They will eventually come to an 'understanding.' Right now they are probably battling over 'territory.' It may take a while, but keep at it. I know it is exhausting, but it is worth it.

NO!!!!!! thats so mean!!!! you cant do that! it hurts them too much! pleas edont do that! you can clip his claws, but dont declaw him. my mother in law babysat my cat for us and said she was going to declaw her and i almost shot her. did you know they have to break their knuckles to do that?!

I agree - please DO NOT DECLAW your cat. Be patient and definitely clip her nails. Clipping their nails erlay gets them use to it.
