Does anyone know if a member of the clergy ordained in another state can legally perform a marriage on Long Island- or do they have to be registered w/ the state. I looked on NY State website, and I couldn't find anything.

You have to be registered with the state....I wanted my father to marry us since he is a minister, but he's registered in CA and it takes about 12 weeks for reg. process to be completed

hmmm that's weird- I called town hall to ask them and they said that as long as the clergy was registered with a church in another state it was okay......
anyone else know?
What would you do?

i can answer this question: if you are getting married in NYC, then he would have to register, but if you are getting married anywhere else in ny state, then it's fine as long as he is ordained and is working in a house of worship in another state.
