PERIOD in town for wedding!!!!!
UGH!!!!!! I just did the math, and my 'friend' is scheduling to be making an appearance at my wedding and honeymoon!
I heard of taking birth control pills continuously, to 'skip' the period, has anyone ever heard of this and is it safe?

Re: PERIOD in town for wedding!!!!!
This is safe, and I'm actually planning on doing it for the honeymoon. Just call your doctor and find out which week of your pills to take if you are on Tri-Phasic pills.

Re: PERIOD in town for wedding!!!!!
Maybe you can calm my other nerves: Would you happen to know if I take the pill continuously is it going to make me bloated? You can say I'm a wee bit paranoid! lol!

Re: PERIOD in town for wedding!!!!!
I used my BC pills to alter my period so that I wouldn't get it on my honeymoon. Actually I did my math in December for my May wedding, and brought the issue up with my gyn. I am on Ortho-Cyclen, not the triphasic. My doc had me add active pills at the end of the 21 days, then do the week of inactives. I did this for a few cycles, and it moved my period back 2 weeks. It was wonderful and I had no side effects. If you are on BC now, find out what is best by talking to your doc. My doc didn't think skipping the week of inactives (i.e., going from one pack to another) was a good option for me, so that's why I went on a altered schedule for 4 months.

Re: PERIOD in town for wedding!!!!!
I wanted to suggest thinking about doing this BEFORE your wedding if you are worried about any side effects. That way you won't have to worry. Your wedding is in Nov. so you could do it in Sept. and get it over with. It will still change your period by a week.Do tha math and see if it would work out!
Good luck!

Re: PERIOD in town for wedding!!!!!
I am scared of this too but have never taken BC, do you think it would be dumb to start now? What about the Depo Shot?

Re: PERIOD in town for wedding!!!!!
Hi: When I was on Desogen, I skipped my period for a month and I did have all the symptoms (just no flow). So, I would do what the other girls have said, do it before hand and you won't have to worry about any of the symptoms! Good Luck!!!

Re: PERIOD in town for wedding!!!!!
I fyou don't want to be bloated for the wedding...skip your period THIS month (or as soon as you can)...then you will bump up your 'friend' by a week!!Going to get my depo shot in Sept...first time...I will report back
tara...its never to late to start the pill...Many doctors think it is good to take - even not for BC purposes - but there are studies that it reduces the risk of ovarian cancer, b/c you are not releasing eggs...

Re: PERIOD in town for wedding!!!!!
Tarakinspa- If you've never taken the pill before I would definitely consult your gyno first and ask which one would work for you- I took it for a little while in the past but I stopped because it made me put on weight and also made my face break out like crazy.

Re: PERIOD in town for wedding!!!!!
the pill is great...... however i would HIGHLY recommend trying it out a few months before the wedding. it does have side effects on some people, and you dont want to risk those if your wedding is really close.... weight gain, nausea, skin stuff...... also if you smoke, DO NOT TAKE IT! it multiplies your cancer risk. but as far as adjusting your period to when you want to get it, you can definitely do this with the pill, and that is definitely a bonus!good luck!

Re: PERIOD in town for wedding!!!!!
It will definitely work, but if your medical insurance pays for the Rx, they may have an issue with you getting a refill one week early. My friend just ran into that problem and had to get a note from her Dr. for the insurance to cover it.

Re: PERIOD in town for wedding!!!!!
I had absolutely no side effects with Ortho Tri Cyclen. I never gained weight, my face never broke out, and I've actually lost about 10 pounds. Give it a shot, you can always go off it if you don;t like the pill.

Re: PERIOD in town for wedding!!!!!
I had this dilemma with my wedding. My advice is to CALL YOUR GYN., let them tell you exactly what to do rather than do it on your own. I started a constant dose of birth control pills about 2 months before BUT they needed to switch me to another type of pill. I was on Ortho Tricyclen and my gyn. said that because of the dosage you get per day (varying hormone levels throughout the cycle vs some other BCP's that are a constant fixed dose per pill) it was not effective for the purpose of holding off your period. So call your gyn for the professional advice. They get this request all the time so they will tell you exactly what to do.Best wishes! Be prepared for a heavy period the following month but it'll be worth it for your honeymoon memories

Re: PERIOD in town for wedding!!!!!
I am on ortho cyclen and have been 'skipping' months for at least 2 years now. My gyn asked me if i wanted to try to do this and it's great! I never get it during the summer and it's fine!Ortho tri cyclen is proven to help with breakouts, not cause them. I would call your gyn and ask about it. There's no reason to worry about your period on your wedding day.
