**Personal** - Bith Control Question

Anyone use Depo-Provera? My doctor mentioned it last night and I was wondering how effective it was and if there were any side effects ....

Feel free to FM me. Thanks in advance!

Re: **Personal** - Bith Control Question

I used it for about 4 years, I had no side affects from it - I had a good experience - although I have heard negatives about it - but didnt experience any negatives myself - no weight gain, no break outs -
For me personally it was great - I had gone from getting my AF twice a month to not getting it at all - what a pleasure!!
Now I've been off of it for about a year in prep for TTC!

I also use it. I have been on it on and off for about 7 years. I went off because I hadn't had AF for the first 5 years I was on it. But when I got sent overseas I thought the best thing for me was to go back on and have been on it again ever since.

I never had any side effects and I also asked my Gyn last week when I got my shot if there were any birth defects from long time users she said no. She also informed me that when some girls come off they can get pregnant within a month but others it can take up to and over a year.

Good Luck

Re: **Personal** - Bith Control Question

Here's the thing, maybe TMI ... I don't want to get pregnant my 1st year of marriage but am thinking that after 1 year to 1-1/2 years I want to start TTCing ... do you think this is a good method if I want to start TTCing after my 1-year anniversary?

brideinapril said she was off it for 1 year in order to prep for TTCing ... maybe this isn't the method to use then if I want to start in 1 years time. hmmm.

You might be better off with the pill in that case. Talk to your doc.

Yeah, I would stay with the pill - if your interested in trying in a year or so. The shot could take yp to 3 months for your periods to stop (not take affect, just stop the flow!).
Does your Dr. know that you want to TTC in the next year or two?

Re: **Personal** - Bith Control Question

No I didn't mention it because we don't know when will be TTCing exactly.

I'm just doing some research now becuase FH & I are going to East Africa on our honeymoon and I **heard** (not confirmed yet) that I cannot get pregnant for a year after the trip (something to do with either the medicine or the risk of malaria). I am going to see my regular doctor this week to discuss this further because my gyn honestly didn't know about E. African travel and the effects of the medicine I'll have to take.

I'm just looking for the easiest BC method if I definitely cannot risk getting pregnant the 1st year of marriage.

Thanks for all your help

Re: **Personal** - Bith Control Question

On your trip to Africa are you going to be taking pills to prevent malaria? I know that if you take those pills you cannot donate blood for x amount of years. As far as the pregnancy thing I am sure about.

I will ask FH for the info, he had to take them when he went to East Timor.

Exactly. It's be pills for Malaria. I *think* I'll be taking Malarone (again seeing doctor tomorrow so will know more).
