Personal Wedding Website...

Personal Wedding Website...

Has anyone made their own wedding website - 80% of my guests are from out of state so I thought this would be a great idea to get information to them rather than sending out mass e-mails all the time. Does anyone know how to go about doing it? Do I need to sign up with a service and pay a fee? I saw the one on theknot.com but I would rather construct my own. THANKS!

I am doing mine on Tripod.
Its free but you have to put up with popup ads and Banner advertising. It also has a paid service if you don't want the ads. I didn't want to pay for a site because that would be just another added expense and weddings are so expensive as it is. Its not that hard and you can edit your page with Microsoft Frontpage or any other html editor you may be familiar with. I know there are companies that specialize in building wedding websites but they can be expensive.

Here's my site....It is a work in progress....Not all the info is on it.

My Wedsite

Let me know if I can be of any help!

Thanks for the info Michelle - I will look there and see if I can do it myself - I really liked your site which is the exact thing I had in mind. Now, I need to learn how to add links, wording, photos, etc.
I need all the help I can get!

Thanks,
Feel free to forum mail me with any questions. I'm not expert but I can try to help you if I can.

Edited to say...I can't take credit for the map. I 'borrowed' it from the East Wind site. Since they give them free to brides to put in their invites I don't think they'd mind if I put it on my site. (At least I hope they don't!)

ps-I also saw that you live Bklyn - I lived in Carroll Gardens for 4 years and loved every minute of it - now I am a suburban girl since this is where my FI lives.

Re: Personal Wedding Website...

Ask your photographer, if he or she can provide you with one. My photographer provides all his brides a website for 2 years. It's really a cool thing to have. I remember viewing my website with my professional wedding pictures from my honeymoon (Greece). It was also a really neat way of sharing the professional pictures with family and friends who live far away.

Re: Personal Wedding Website...

FH did ours. But he's a computer programmer so he did it in some sort of funky code.
We have message boards for the guests to post questions and so that I can send out mass e-mails to the out of towners:
Wedding Website
Just for some ideas, his friend, one of our groomsmen did this site which was modelled after weddingchannel.com
Wedding Website 2

It helps to be marrying a computer nerd. One less thing to worry about in terms of the wedding website

Also, if you register with weddingchannel.com, you can make your own site. Not too many design options, but it's really easy to do.
