Do you think PETA has a right to have Star Jones impersonator(6 ft drag queen) in their new ads? And they are doing a video showing inhumane treatment, with clips of JLo walking down runway in fur...
I can go without fur or leather, but I am a meat eater..I feel PETA has a right to get message across..but I also feel that they should tell the public that they are against drug testing on animals

imo...PETA has a tendency to cross the line...as in this case.. I think it only hurts their cause then help it

Re: PETA- and star jones
A few years ago, someone I was in school with came in and said he had just seen this woman dressed as a tiger in a cage in times square. It seems that PETA was trying to make some point about animal cruelty. He was all excited, because apparently she was scantily clad and all made up. So my reaction was 'so it is wrong to be cruel to animals, but it's OK to objectify women? Explain that to me.....'
I think they should have freedom of speech and to demonstrate, but violating someone's personal space and possesions is wrong whatever their beliefs are.

If you want to see PETA in their finest hour..go to the circus..we sat their guilt stricken..they announced to my cousins 7 yr old that elephants are beaten there at night

Oh my god, I just posted something about this on the NWR board. It really put a downer on our day when we went to the circus!

I really don't care what PETA does. I would never wear fur EVER. I only have the faux kind. I just look at my bunnies and think, 'How could someone want to wear those??'
This also brings me back to when I saw (on TV) men hitting the baby harp seals on their heads and skinning them alive...it makes me want to cry...

It's a horrible thing, but true that they have to 'break' an elephant to tame them...it's an atrocious practice.

My son is a vegetarian, and the family is not. He can have his beliefs, but he is not to 'preach' because he can say some pretty gross stuff. I also feel PETA goes out of their way to gross people out sometimes. they have a right to let people know that animals are being abused for human entertainment etc. (like at the rodeo) but put it in a flyer that you can decide to read or not!

Agreeing that it would probably hurt their image rather than support the cause

Re: PETA- and star jones
I think most of the stuff you're mentioning is totally justified. The fact that PETA ddoens't condemn more 'extreme' actions, like violence, etc..is a problem.
I think the circus thing is fine. My school had a trip to the circus. I complained and they let me and one other girl arrange a focus group on animal cruelty to counter it, but it feel through, of course...
The circus is HORRIBLE.
I'm a vegetarian, and I NEVER try to push that on anyone..in fact I don't even say anything about it or make an issue out of it, and I prefer not to talk about it because it's a personal choice. i WILL speak out about things like, fur, the circus, clubbing baby seals, veal, cosmetic animal testing, dissection, etc etc

i have to admit i have seen JLo in fur and said what a b!tch to myself. i cant stand it. i feel that peta is tryng to put the message out there and the info for people, but it can be taken too far. for the record, i will NEVER wear fur, or leather (shoes you sometimes cant help), or suede... and will never go to the Circus.

i think they treat people who don't belive them worse then they animals that they claim are mistreated. they go too far and often hurt the cause rather then help it. i don't wear fur because that is just not something i choose to do, but when i see it i don't make a fuss or start throwing paint at the person. people are going to do what they want to do, regardless of what others think.

I just feel they rely on these outrageous tactics and think that it is actually doing something...Yea some people might me shocked but more so by the people (PETA) and not the message they are trying to send
In fact they look like fools...

lolita,'
congrats on your wedding. I bet it was awesome in Vegas(making my second trip in July).
I was so happy to read that you won't go to the circus. I feel the same way. My husband's friend thinks it is weird that I won't go... but I would pay to see animals that are drugged to perform!!!

i am nasty to women who wear fur coats too. well, not mean, but i give them the cold shoulder.
