'Petite' girls...? about ordering of dress.......HELP!
i'm going for a Maggie Sottero (Rhiana Royale) and there is a ton of stuff on the bottom of it and throughout.
What has your shops suggested? A hollow to hem? Ordering it shorter than a petite?
Mine suggested a mermaid slip and 4' heels with a 1' platform. I DO NOT wear heels so I am not comfortable with this. My other option is to start at $200 to pay for them to take the flowers/embellishments up and that's not including other alterations
there has got to be more choices so i want to know what you gals did.
thanks!

im doing a hollow to hem because the thought of cutting from the bottom would have been a deal breaker. i got my dress during a trunk show so the designer threw it in, so im not sure how much it is, but i heard somewhere around 300-400.

I THINK it depends on your dress if you do hollow to hem or not. When I was thinking of getting an all lace dress they said it was hollow to hem. But when i got my dress from Pronovias they don't do it hollow to hem. My dress doesn't have as much detail on the bottom as the lace one did. I THINK that's the reason.
The girl i worked with didn't suggest anything about shoes.

I also did a hollow-to-hem and my dress came sized just right for my (5') bod :) However, my petite sister bought a dress that had teal blue ribbon all around the hem. The seamstress we use took the dress up from the waist somehow in order to 'save' the hem. It looked beautiful and fit her just right. If you want her number let me know.

i got a lace maggie and they said they dont do hollow to hem for it
i ordered petite. worse case, i need to guy shoes less than 3-inches. i really dont care.
so when i go for my first try-on, im bringin shoes will all different heel heights so i know what works
i would rather go crazy about heels than worry about hemming
(FYI. i was right on the height cut-off, so i could go with regular or petite. they said if i definately wanted 3-inch heels, than i should order regular. but i dont care)

I did hollow to hem as well. It cost $125 and a hem was $100. I'm short so I knew I would need to do a hem anyway. Also my dress is crystals from top to bottom so the bridal salon suggested the hollow to hem. I had my 1st fitting and it fit perfectly!!!! Only need a bustle. I couldn't believe it. Paradise Bridal is the best. They also had 3 people do the hollow to hem measurement just to make sure they came up with the same measurement which I thought was really good.

i purchased a trumpet dress that would have had to be cut from the bottom and would have lost its entire shape because I am 4'10.
I went the day of a trunk show and the designer was able to specify that the dress should be made custom. he raised the flare up 4 inches so it would fit me better.
If there is a line on top of the skirt I would take it from there instead of cutting from the bottom and loosing so much embellishment!
GOOD LUCK

Check with the dress shop. Some of the Maggie dresses come in petite - I ordered mine in petite length - I am only 5'5

I am doing the hollow to hem as long as I get a dress with detail on the bottom. When I was trying on dresses, I was told to only do it if there was stuff that would need to be removed if I got it hemmed. I totally wouldn't do the 4 inch heels either if I was you! The last thing you want to do is be uncomfortable the whole night!

I'm not particularly short (about 5'4') and did a hollow to hem. I think they're pretty typical for dresses that cannot be hemmed b/c of hemline detailing or lace.

Mine was a maggie sottero too. They ordered the petitie for me and had to take certain measurements that they said has to go in to the the designer for when they make the dress (I mean height measurements) and yes I did the hollow to hem too!

Definitely do a hollow to hem. Then the only alterations you will have to do is to fit the bodice part correctly and do the bustle. make sure they measure you with the shoes you want to wear (or something else with the same heel height).

You girls are making me worried!! i ordered my dress which is all lace and the place I ordered it from told me not to order it hollow to hem even tho i suggested it because they say it never comes exact and you have to pay for it to come that way and then if its not right you have to pay additional to get it hemed again. They are cutting the bottom and re applying the scalloping at the bottom as an applicay (however u spell it ) I hope it comes out right because I totally went with there advice and now i'm questioning it!! has anyone been told the same thing?
