Pets and dandruff?

Pets and dandruff?

My kitty Willow (who lives with my Mom now) , seems to have a problem with dry skin or dandruff (only on his back, more towards his tail). It's always worse in the Winter. Has anyone encountered this problem w/ a cat or dog, and if so, what did you do to remedy it?
TIA.

My cat had this in the exact same spot. I tried switching her food from Iams to Nutro. Nutro has much more natural oils in it and it actually worked, however every now and then it returns very briefly.

She also really likes this new food...its a special formula for indoor cats!

I've recently started our dogs on some oil I add to their food, I bought it from Fosters & Smith.

I've read FLAX OIL us good ... but it does take time to work.

If it's coming from 1-2 spots or hive-like areas on his body, look for a treatment for 'hot spots.' They have it at Petco and you just put it on the area that bothers them. I forget the name of it. I bought an Oatmeal Shampoo for Oscar b/c I think that Dachsies are prone to dandruff and skin irritation. My last dog got dandruff when he was nervous, you could see him shaking and the flakes starting to show at the same time!!!

Both my dogs get this sporadically, but more in the winter. I usually just add Linatone to their food for a week or so & it gets better.

My Vet told me when Maddy had it that it was poor quality diet. We switched her to Wellness and she's never had a problem since...

I was told to put about 2 teaspoons of vegetable oil in the food. It's supposed to help the dry skin.

wellness is one of the best foods out there my Oscar the dog and mt Kitty the cat are on it and they love it and their skin looks better. Also my grooming clients are also very happy with the results. The white fish and sweet potato formula is great.
