Petticoats/Corsets/Bras Etc

Petticoats/Corsets/Bras Etc

It's that time - time for me to buy a corset and a petticoat. I have read where you girls got hoop skirts and had double bustle etc....but I'm pretty sure my dress and the line of the dress don't call for a hoop skirt or a bustle (my train hooks up somewhere on my waist and makes this pretty triangle thing on the back).

My question is: If I don't get a hoop skirt, what kind of petticoat do I need? Medium? Medium full? (I don't want the dress to stick out so much)

Next: Does one wear a corset with a slip? Or just a bra with a slip? Or does it matter? I want cleavage and I'd like to wear a corset for shape...here is my dress. Advice please.

Rachel, can't help you with the hoop things, but with regard to a corset, I purchased one at the Orchard Corset Shop, and it looked good, but overall, I looked better and slimmer without a corset than with a corset.

Don't know why, don't understand it, and will be using the corset for the bridal night

has your dress come in yet?? i wouldn't buy anything until you see yourself in your dress. when i bought my dress the seamstress swore i would need a long line bra or corset. when my dress came in, it fit so well - all i need are cups sewn in.

i wouldn't spend the $$ until you are sure that you will need it.

Rachel!! I got cleavage in my wedding dress thanks to Mary's corsetierre's! BEST place ever! you tell her the look you are going for and she gets you what you need to get that!

My waist looks sooooooooooooooo small in my gown!!! the corset works as a cincher as well.

as for hoop skirt, if you decide to get one, you look for the fullness that you are looking for..

Rachel, is your dress a-lined?

Marcella you look tiny in anything you put on!

Yes, my dress is A-lined so I am thinking I need an A-line slip. I am not sure though, about the bra vs. corset thing. I get really, really hot and I'm afraid a corset will make it worse and itchy. Plus, if you look at my dress, it comes down a little in the back and I nbeed to account for that.

The dress has come in but right now it is all the way out East in Rocky Point and there is no way I can get out there during the week or anything to test it out....

Rachel, my corset is low in the back...

they have dif kinds of it.

To be blunt with you, there have been a couple of weddings I've been to where the bride wore a halter and their boobs looked sloppy....I would def get something to wear underneath.. nothing worse than sloppy boobs..

Rachel,

Can I ask if you have a pic of your bustle? My dress should do some sort of triangle bustle too, but I wanted to show my seamstress a pic so I could show her exactly what I want. The only pic I could find is this one that someone (sorry, can't remember who) posted a while ago. It's close, but not exactly what the bridal store showed me when I bought the dress.

If you have any pics of what you would want, I would really appreciate it.

Thanks-
