I can't decide if I want to make them or buy them. Please feel free to offer your advice. If we make them, what ribbon is used? Someone told me 'paper satin' is what I need. What width works best?
If you bought yours from a vendor, would you please FM me the cost so I have something to compare with.
I'm also wondering about swagging tulle from one pew to the next. Has anyone done this? What width tulle did you use? Approximately how many yards did you need for each pew?

I wanted to do the tulle, but realized people would have a hard time getting in and out of the pews.

Re: Pew Bows, etc...
there are some cute pew bows on eBay, but I'm not sure if this is what you are looking for. I just happened to stumble across them today:
I'm getting mine from www.4dollarbows.com - I really like them as a compromise between regular pew bows and cloth. They're more ivory than white, but i don't care.
also try ebay - tons of them on there. That's where I found 4dollarbows.

I'm making mine and they're really simple. We're putting them on every other pew. They're tulle and they have thin blue & white ribbons streaming from the middle of it with a white silk rose and some ivy. I'll post a pic eventually- don't have it on me right now but it's much cheaper IMO and they came out beautiful.

I had a sample made at Patchogue Floral since I'm using ivory ribbon and autumn patterned ribbon. I think I paid somewhere between $7-$10 but my grandmother is actually making mine.

I saw a set of pew bows on sale at Michaels. Just wait for the 50% off coupon that comes in the newspaper everyother week and stock up. I think they come 12 to a box and they cost $20. dont quote me on the price though. I faintly remember seeing them in the circular last week.

I am going to make mine or actually I think my mother and sister are going to make mine. I went to michael's right after Christmas and they had all of their ribbons like 75%off. I got 10 rolls of 2 inch wide a shimmery white iridescent ribbon with a silver wire edge on it. We actually had a bow maker (from someother craft) and made a sample with that. I think it cost me about $25 for 10 bows. I might ask my florist for either some greenery or a few roses to stick in there. But I really dont think they need it. I just have to figure out how to and who is going to attach them to the pews.
They actually looked a lot nicer than any of the bows that I have seen they are a lot fuller.

Making the pew bows is cheaper and easy. There are plenty of books in the library to teach you. Also you can buy the ribbon online at ebay. It is so affordable-Anything to save money.

Thanks everyone. You had some really good suggestions. If we make them it looks like we should have a bow maker. If you used one, are there any features or brand we should look for before buying one?

Re: Pew Bows, etc...
The bow maker isnt really any hi tech tool. If you know someone who is a little handy they can probally make it for u.
Go to the craft store and take one out of the box and look at it. You can probally tape two pencils on the side of a table about 10 inches apart and wrap the ribbon around it about 10 times. Just make sure you leave like an extra 10 inches of ribbon in the beggining and the end for the 'tails' to hang on the bottom. Tie the middle with a piece of wire and fluff it out.
Use a wire edged ribbon or a stiff ribbon so it hold better.
I havnt tried it with the pencils but I really can't see why it wont work. Good Luck
