We stayed at the Double Tree in July. We booked a secret hotel with hotwire and got a great deal. The room was huge and had a couch and sitting area as well. I would stay there again.

We stayed at the Sheraton and loved it - beautiful view. Also go downtown, there's so much to do. Weirdly enough, you won't really find philyl cheese steaks down there, but beautiful architecture. You have to go see the LOVE statue in the main park, and tons of museums if you like that.

If it's not too cold, head down to south street. A lot of shops and cute little stores there. Also, head to Penn's landing, there are usually festivals. If you want to go out at night, try olde city, they have classic cobbelstone roads and tons of bars/lounges.

HTH!

You can pretty much see a lot of Philly historical landmarks in the same area.. I don't know the name of the area but they are near the bell. Go to the Visitor's Center and they will give you the map. You can also go a little out of the way to the Eastern State Penitentiary which is an abandoned prison and so awesome.

I recommend staying at a Kimpton Hotel

I went to King of Prussia for my best friend's wedding recently at we stayed at the Dolce Valley Forge. It's a great hotel and the price was great too! But that's Philly suburbs. I don't have any suggestions for the city.

We went in September because I never went to Philly, we stayed at the Marriott Downtown and it was right across the street from the Reading Terminal Market!! We loved it there. Parking is crazy expensive at all the hotels so we dropped off our luggage at the hotel and parked in a parking garage.

The best thing I loved about Philly was the Eastern State Penitentiary, it sounds crazy but it was the coolest thing!! It's a 142 year old prison that was closed in the 70's that you can walk around and explore. The audio tour is by Steve Buschemi and is so interesting....I definitely recommend it, we spent 3 hours there and then left to go home from there. I took amazing pictures there and they have really good information session abouts escaping, prison life, etc.
Al Capone stayed there for 7-8 months too!

We also went to the Yards Brewery because FH is obsessed with breweries! We did the touristy historical stuff one day and then eating and prisons the second!

Re: philadelphia hotels

my fiance and i stayed here the last time we visited.
http://www.hotelaka.com/locations/rittenhouse_square/default.aspx

It's located in rittenhouse square.
it was GORGEOUS. it's more of a glorified apartment building. all the rooms have a full kitchen. it was a great place with great prices.

the park is across the street.
anthropologie is right across the street and there's a really fantastic french brasserie across from the park by david star, (or whoever that Buddakhan dude is)

FH i went last year because i got him hockey tickets -- and turned out the weekend we went they got hit with 36 inches of snow.. YEA that was fun lol.. but that time we stayed at Loews hotel which was really nice but on the pricey side. then the past summer we decided to do a last min stay there coming home from pa and we did the priceline thing where u dont know where your staying -- SCARY! lol but we ended up staying at the radisson hotel which is down the block from the shopping strip where EVERYTHING IS! and we paid 100 a night there.. it wasnt too bad but i dont think it be a top pick for me again!

Also sounds silly but we did that tour bus that takes you all around.. it was awesome because we really got to see ALOT! the pass is good for 24 hours or you can get it for longer if you want --you get off where you want and hop back on when you want.. it was awesome! we got to see soo much!!!
but we were such tourist! lol
