Phone Call......

Has anyone received a phone call from a company called Global Lifestyles? I just received one saying I 'won' a 2 night/3 day vacation and I just need to go to see their products tomorrow night and claim my prize. They said there is no obligation to buy anything. I was just curious if anyone else recieved this type of phone call and what they thought. They said I won at the Bridal Expo.

It's a scam. Last time I went to A bridal expo not hosted by liweddings me and all my friends signed up supposedly one the same thing so we Google it.

its pretty much a scam, you have to sit through a presentation, and they say that you are not obligated to buy anything, but when we said we didn't want to buy anything, the woman pretty much told me and my fiance that if we couldn't afford her products then maybe we weren't ready to get married. I wanted to punch her. Then she gave us the brochure thing to redeem the free trip, but when i read the fine print you have to pay $100 to redeem it.

Total scam, do not fall for it like i did. I thought my fiance was going to kill me for making him go. hehe

You didn't win anything. I 'win' this under a diff company name like once every few months, sometimes if I didn't even go to a bridal show.

It's not a 'Scam' either. You go to a hotel to see a demonstration and receive a hard sell on their expensive products. After that you do get a voucher but I have heard mixed things about it. Some peopel said it was good, some peopel said there was too much fine print/fees to make ti worthwhile

I also got the call. Then I jumped on liweddings and searched to see if any of you had and sure enough....! hah. I thought it was fishy. It sounded like a sales pitch. I had to ask the girl, 'but who are you exactly?' 'what company is this?' When she finally told me I had to sit through a 90 minute 'presentation' with my fiance I knew it was a scam. I believe they really give you a voucher, but I also beleive they really push the products on you. And I wouldnt doubt there's a fee attached to redeeming the voucher. If I had the time I'd go just for a laugh though.

Just did some more googling, and found this review (see below) - definetly a rip off. Don't go. I had a girlfriend that did one of these and unfortunately she's more gulible and walked out with $2k in pots and knives. And apparently the girl on the phone flat out lied to me when I asked if there were ANY fees and ANY blackout dates.

12 Jan 2011OK, so I went to one of these. Here's the final word on this Global Lifestyles thing.

My fiance and I had been to a bridal expo the weekend before and filled out several cards for raffles/drawings/promotions, none of which were Global Lifestyles. My fiance was excited to receive a call declaring that she had won a free honeymoon! Hooray!

So clearly one of the stands we visited had sold our info to Global Lifestyles (by the way, why is a company that sells cookware and cutlery called 'Global Lifestyles'? And *** is with their webpage? 'Your future is our business today'. What does that have to do with anything? A picture of people standing next to the pyramids? Not one single pot or pan on the home page?) But I digress....

The presentation was 90 minutes of pure misery. I attempted to gouge out my ear drums several times to distract myself from the pain, only to be thwarted by my fiance. The cookware itself was ridiculously overpriced and an unbelievable rip-off (something like $1,500 for a 10-piece set). The presenter bragged about the 'special' 30-50% off we get if we buy the cookware that night, only later to say that you can only buy these products at a showing like this (so how is this a discount if it's impossible to buy anywhere at full price?) There wasn't a person in the room over 25 so they were obviously targeting young, inexperienced consumers.

So, as promised, we were not required to purchase anything. As soon as the presentation was over, we asked what we needed to do to get our free hotel stay. We were handed a paper with a validation code and the Terms and Conditions of our hotel rental.

We found out that the hotel rental actually goes through another company, the Odenza Marketing Group. You need to pay a $100.00 deposit fee to Odenza, which I found through some reading has a decent chance of not finding its way back to you. After a quick Google Search on this Odenza Marketing Group, I found nothing but bad things and more shadiness: http://www.complaintsboard.com/complaints/odenza-marketing-group-c246492.html

Here are some excerpts from the Terms and Conditions:

'All vacation offers are subject to Odenza's availability and promotional inventory.' [Odenza rents a certain number of hotel rooms and them rents them to you. So you go by whatever they have available; not the hotel.]

'Odenza reserves the right to offer an alternate travel date and or destination.' [So they can literally just change your reservation however they see fit.]

'Check in for this offer will take place from Sunday through Wednesday only. Travel is not permitted during any State, Provincial or Federal Holiday. Additional charges may apply for travel during peak periods.' [So if the summer is considered a peak period, and you have a job, you basically can't use this promotion even if you wanted to.]

'Odenza reserves the right to change these terms and conditions without notice.' [Never a good thing to see written in any terms and conditions. You gotta at least admire their courage for just blatantly putting this in there.]

Bottom line, completely ignore this offer if you get it. Scam, scam, scam. Call the bridal expos you attend to complain about allowing this crap to go on at what should be a legitimate event that prescreens this kind of BS.
