Re: Phone interview help....

i did that once.

honestly i hated it. what i did like though was i was in my PJ's at home. What was really great was i was able to do so much research on the company and i had it all in front of me. i also had notes in front of me and if i had any questions that was in front of me as well

what types of projects does the team work on that i will be apart of

what types of skills will be required of me to help the team succeed

thats what I find so hard, b/c i am used to eye contact and that whole 'human interaction' thing...uggh....

I had found phone interviews easier than non-phone b/c you can have your notes in front of you.

Remember to smile and be optimistic, b/c that actually shows thorugh the phone conversations

Re: Phone interview help....

i hate phone interviews for the reason theresa posted. i had 2 and they said it right over the phone we screen you over the phone first because it saves us time in finding the appropriate candidate

then lke 3 weeks later i get a letter in the mail thanks for your time but we are going to look into other options.

then of course i get the interviews that were beyond a waste of my time. my commue was longer then the interview.

i hate corporate world so much

I had notes in front of me. I had answers to all of the 'usual' interview questions. It was cool because I did it while lying on my bed.

Ive conducted phone interviews. Its really good for the employers because they can rule out someone who doesnt have the right skill set without bothering to set up a formal interview, wasting everyones time.

Expect the same sort of questions you would get on a face to face interview...specifically ones about your resume details and prior experience. Be prepared to tell them how you are qualified for this specific positiong for X,Y, and Z reasons. Dont type, russle paper or have any distractions while you are on the phone.

I agree with Sonicstef. I have interviewed and been interviewed over the phone and it really does save time for all involved. Also, phone interviews focus on your experience and abilities. Without the face to face, you will be evaluated based on your responses. The face to face does allow for eye contact etc but it also can potentially allow the employer to make judgments based on appearance. If you are asked in after a phone interview you know that your experience and skills are appropriate for the position.

Re: Phone interview help....

When I had one it was with the president of the company, and while he did ask me some questions, he spent a lot of time talking about the company history (he built it from the ground up) and corporate culture and during the course of our hour and a half long chat, he upgraded the job description to suit my skills and practically offered me the job pending an in-person meeting (I lived out of state) and the obligatory drug testing. I wish they were all so easy!

I like phone interviews. You can have your notes and you are not judged on your appearance which seems to be a big problem these days.
