I am about to start my search for my photographer. Any recommendations for ones I should check out or stay away from? And I know there are different packages but around how much should I be paying for a good photographer?

Re: Photographer
I've found prices anywhere from $1500-$4000 for photography. The first step is to decide what you need from your photographer, the amount of hours (some of them don't price based on it, some do), the style you like (traditional, photojournalistic), how many staff you'll need (one photographer, a lighting ***'t, 2 photographers, videographer-sometimes based on number of people in bridal party/guests), and what products you want (couple's album, parent albums, images on a disk, thank you notes, an engagement shoot, etc.). That, combined with budget, makes it much easier to find the right photographer.

One of the most important things I think is to go with your gut instinct. If you don't think the person is for you, no matter how good their pictures are, don't go with them.
I met with one photog that just didn't sit right with me, and although his work was beautiful, I couldn't imagine spending the most important day of my life with him!

ITA! We've only chosen 2 of our vendors and are close to a 3rd but it's just like that. Every single time we have a meeting with a vendor we end up choosing I just trust my gut! Also, look over to see FH reaction, he wears his heart on the sleeve and I can just tell, THIS IS IT! Or we better keep looking..... So my advice is, set a budget and then make a list of photographers within that budget that you would like to meet. Contact them and make appointments then decide from there.
Best of luck and FYI you can get photographers from $1000-6000+ it's all dependent upon what package you're interested in and what which photographers you like.

Re: Photographer
I'm pretty picky and have a background in design. FH and I both fell in love with THOMAS PAUL. He is so amazing and passionate about his work. You def aren't just another bride. I did a lot of research on prices and for the work he does he was def worth just a little more. He also worked with us on price. I wanted a photographer who had a good eye and knows how to work with lighting and catching great angles, and capturing moments, and can creatively see a great opportunity for a memorable photo right at the moment. I can Photoshop the S*hit out of photos and play with them to add special effects and make it look modern and cool or vintage and distinctive. Thats wonderful, but I wanted photos that were timeless and beautifully edited, but also ones that the essential picture with out the 'special effects' was still amazing. He was the nicest guy, overly understanding, and he listens. I could share lots more with you if you like. Please FM me if you want more specific info.

Re: Photographer
we did video & photo separately, since we loveddd our photographer. Only bad thing is you cant really negotiate. If you have someone who does both then its alot easier to chew them down.

Re: Photographer
We chose Thomas Paul, and he is wonderful!!! Amazing work and a great personality. His photography package has a lot to offer at a reasonable price. As soon as I saw his work I knew we would book with him.
I saw him at the LIW extravaganza and said 'Hi, you prob don't remember me but I wanted to say hi' He asked me my name and FH name and replied 'I remember you, March 24th right?' I couldn't believe it
