PHOTOGRAPHER ADVICE!!!!- MUST READ!!

I just wanted to remind everyone to GET YOUR NEGATIVES from the photographer!!!!!

SOme offer to give you physical negatives, others give you a Negative CD w/ the digital pictures.

Make sure this is in your contract!!!

I got my digital negative CD from Duet this weekend.
While they gave me about 700 proofs, which was awesome, there were 2,000 negatives!

Some proofs they printed were great but the best ones were on the CD that they didnt print out as proofs.

so Duet was supposed to give you proofs and negativeS?

i only mentioned to them about the proofs, nothing about the negativeS.

Do I really need the negatives if i'm getting ALL proofs on a CD and hard copy?

Duet is all digital so the 'Photo CD Library' is what you want.
They don't print ALL the photos taken as hard copy proofs, only some. & the CD of edited proofs will only have those same ones.
So, to get every shot that they take that day, you need the Photo CD Library.

Photographers who shoot in film will have actual negatives.

Hope this makes sense..

for digital pictures, the negatives are high resolution images on a cd.

My sister reminded me to do this. My photographer is giving me all of my digital proofs on DVD for a minimal charge.

Also note that some photographers will keep the negatives for a specific amount of time and then will hand them over to you for a small fee after their timeline is up. They are not trying to cheat you from your pics...they just are protecting themselves, becasue they see what they do as a form of art, and they are apprehensive to share them with EVERYONE, including their competition.

That is another extremely important point. Make sure that for digital pics, that you get the original, un-resized 'RAW' files.

The camera takes the pictures in 'RAW' format which, at 100%, turn out to be huge on a computer.

These are the only files that are suitable for enlarging and reprinting.

Once they re-size them and re-save them as a different file format (usually JPEG or JPG), they are no longer the quality needed to get decent reprints.

That's correct! And it would most likely be on a DVD not CD (due to size of high def. photos).
